Hi all,

Im thinking about buying a Chris Reeve green beret knife, I would like to hear from anyone that owns this knife, Im interested in quality, strength and whether or not you would recommend it.

Cheers

Its nice but you can find better for the money, S30V in a fixed blade is not ideal and being a lower Rc kills performance. (I don't own one but have handled one)

Good luck, this might get ugly......

I've got a 5.5" GB. It works fine as a woods knife. Holds an edge better than my O1 knives, about the same as my CRK one piecers. Easy to put a hair popping edge back on it with a sharpmaker. I've "lightly" batonned it with no chipping or other negative effects. Its a bit cumbersome for cleaning squirrels but it gets the job done. Even though its got a double guard its still quite comfortable to choke up on. Actually the only thing I don't care for on the knife are the serrations.

I own and have used mine for building a shelter in which my wife and I slept in overnight. While I neglected to smack it with a 5# sledge, it did hold up just fine. It has a great edge. Cuts very well. Sharpens easily. Personally, I like the way it feels in my hand. While not a big fan of serrations, they take up only a small part of the blade so I can see where they may come in handy, while not interfering with the blade's cutting ability.

Still own mine after several years. Have purchased a Neil Robberts after buying my GB. Nothing wrong with these knives, as long as you use them for the tool that they are, a knife.....;)

I've owned the 5" and 7" GB the Warrior and the Pacific

They are made beautifully but don't really excel at any one task.

For the $350 after tax ....

You could buy a BK-9 or Junglas ... Benchmade or Spyderco folder .... Swiss Army Knife .... multi tool and a Baco folding saw.

... and still have beer money left!

Just my opinion though.

For that amount of money, I'd look into the stainless Bark Rivers.
Or for something several magnitudes of strength greater than a GB for the same amount of money or less, a Fehrman or a Busse Combat/Swamp Rat/Scrap Yard.

PS: I'd recommend that the OP take a look at the RatManDeux LE from Swamp Rat while it's still available from the factory. He can check it out here:

noss's destruction tests notwithstanding, S30V isn't known for its great lateral strength. And strength is one of the qualities the OP requested. Hence my recommendation that he consider something besides a GB.
