Chris Reeve Green Beret - questions about the sheath

Hi,

I bought a used Chris Reeve Green Beret sheath as it fits one of my custom-made knives. I would like to attach it vertically to my backpack.
However, I am not sure about the upper loop that has velcro on it....Could you explain to me how am I supposed to use that?

The guy who sold it to me modded it in order to serve this purpose, but the mod was awful and I do not want to use it like that (i.e. he poked holes into the sheath and fed paracord though them in a very disturbing way ).

I am not 100% sure what you are asking, and your pic didn't help much.

If it is what I think you are asking, the velcro loop goes around the handle to keep it secure in the sheath. It is not meant to be any kind of attachment point.

Ahhhh, on the backside of the sheath - that makes more sense. I thought he was referring to the retention strap on the front.
