Bought this knife today, not really knowing anything about it.

I am curious when was it made?
What steel does it have?
What model is it? Blade is 3 inches long.

How come it is only marked with letter R?

Thank you.

I need to figure out how to add pictures from my computer.

Got it to work.

With your membership level, you will need to use a image hosting site. For more detail see Tech forum stickie.
Without a photo we will not be able to give much help. It could be a clone or an earlier model (21 on back-presuming Sebenza)small
If you didn't spend multiple $ hundreds for it, it is likely a clone

Well who knows what I got, I know it is new and it came in Chris Reeves black box.

Any chance I could email you pictures and you can post it?

No pressure. my email is storchinsky@yahoo.com

Thank you very much
Steve

Hopefully someone can help you with the photo. Unfortunately I have my own set of problems posting them.
Unless there has been a recent change Chris Reeve boxes have always been white

I'm 99% sure that's a fake. The hardware is wrong, the color on the lanyard pin is wrong, the thumbstud is wrong, the lanyard is wrong, and the box is wrong. I hope you didn't overpay. I'd guess this to be worth less than 50 bucks, and most people here won't touch it based on principle. I'd seriously look into a refund/return.

I'm changing my answer. I'm 110% sure. The blade doesn't look right, and the logo looks warped on the knife. One other way to tell is to look for stamped date codes inside the knife down by the lanyard side.

Agree with W WedgeAntilles there are a ton of giveaways it's a fake. Can be found for $30 or less normally advertised as having a d2 blade and tc4 handles.

To answer your questions, it is modeled after a standard Sebenza 21. Those were around 2008-2018 IIRC. The R you mention is actually a C and R for Chris Reeve.

Edit: The details of yours, particularly the bend out of the clip overall from the handle and the torch anodizing on the thumb stud, look identical to one for $28 on a Chinese reseller.

Yeah I agree it is fake, watched few videos.... not too expensive lesson learned. I will keep it and scratch "fake" on the side of it

Ouch. A hundred dollars on a fake. Where did you buy that? Ebay or some Chinese wholesaler?

Price, country of origin, and blade steel are the easy indicators of clones/fakes. There are others, but those will stand out in the listing, without even seeing the knife. Nobody is selling a new Sebenza for anywhere near that price and they are all made in the USA-specifically Idaho( except for a few ultra rare early folders and some fixed blades made in South Africa). If you care to put up the money for a true Sebenza(very nice knife) I suggest you buy from an authorized dealer(CRK's website has a list) or from the exchange here.
better luck in the future, you are not the 1st to be sucked in by these ads. There is a whole industry dedicated to doing so, as you can see on EBAY.e

I got it at a garage sale. At $100 I suspected it might be a fake but I took a chance. Win some lose some, not a big deal at that price. A price of education :)

Thank you for your replies.

A fool and his money are soon parted. Education is nearly free if you know how to use Google.

Honestly, the worst part is the cringe factor of funding Chinese fakes.
