I met Chris Reeve at the Shot Show. A nice fellow with some good looking knives. Not being an expert on knives; how do his knives stack up against the other knives in the same class? And in fact, what is that class and who are the players?

There are very, very few in that class, IMHO.
For the price, you might find some customs.
In a folder, I do not know of any other "semi-Production" (call them whatever you want!) knives that I have as much confidence in as I do in my Sebbie.

I do not have any fixed blade experience with CR (in that area, I'm a Busse man).

CRK are in top tier production knives. Also in the top interms of price. His folding knives (Sebenza) are considered by some as the best. Construction and quality is among the best out there. Same can be said of his fixed blades. The one-piece line is well regarded.

The only real compition is William Henry in terms of manufacturing quality. Although they make different types of blades. Some might say Strider or Zero Tolerance are in the same class (they make solid stuff), but thier Fit and Finish is no where close, but the prices are.

As a company Chris Reeve Knives are some of the best made knives for the money. Check out the CRK sub-forum in the manufacturers area.

You cannot got wrong with a Chris Reeve. They are an excellent value. He is top-tier. Cool that you got to meet him! Check out Busse too... Busse knives are a little bit different style, but quality and warranty are right up there with the best... about 1/4 of my collection is Busse, the other 1/4 Reeve, and the rest just odds and ends...

Saberman,
He is a friend of a friend. I bought a Mountainaire I as he recommended it following a long discussion of my lifestyle. (I live in a cabin in the mountains of Western North Carolina and I am definitely an outdoors type.)
He was kind enough to autograph the box and add a personal note. We parted with a handshake from he and his son and a hug from Mrs. Reeve.

Reeve sets the benchmark in which all other blades are measured. They are the best of the best.

Willowdog,
Sounds like you had a good time. I've only had a chance to talk with his wife, very nice lady BTW. That's really cool that you had a chance to talk with the man himself and have him recomend a knife that fits ourlife style.

I did forget Busse in regard to fixed blades. They make amazing stuff, if your looking a regular Fixed Blade not hollowed handled, Busse is hard to beat. S30V is not what I would want on a chopper, A2 is.
