I recently got an old Chris Reeve Aviator and was wondering about collector value. Is there any value in very early (South Africa made.) Chris Reeve knives? If I have his company do a refurb on the knife would I be hurting its value?

Welcome to Bladeforums!

We have a Chris Reeve Knives Forum where you might get more of the experts to see your question.

I imagine there is a premium on the older knife. Hold off on refurbishing until you get an estimate of its current value.

there is a definite premium. the amount would depend on the condition and year it was made, among other things.

many collectors seek out these older s.a. models exclusively. check with westlen, he knows quite a bit about the crk line.

I'll give ya $30 for it, but you'll have to cover the shipping;) .Welcome to the Forums:) .

I'll up that to $40.00! and pay the shipping:D :D Hello and welcome!
To your ? about the earlier S.A's. Yes, they bring in more $$'s because of the age. But it's the condition and rarity that makes most of the value go up. And ...then again, it you have an item that someone needs or wants very badly, you can get your price. Hope this helps in some way.
....post some pic's, we love CRK's!

As a collector, I would have no issue with a knife refurbished by its maker -- it would not degrade the value of the knife in my eyes. When I buy a CRK collector piece, I tend to send it in. However, if it's a Sebenza, I don't go for blade replacement, since the blade material has varied throughout the years. YMMV . . .
