Hi all,

Can some please inform me of the specified color/texture/material difference on the standard Chris Reeve Nyala knife?

I'm interested in the Nyala with the darker blade NOT the polished, reflective blade. Is the difference that the darker blade Nyala is stonewashed or is it a coating material? Is it any more expensive?

When I've been looking online some dealers/shops list the Nyala as being stonewashed and other dealers/shops do not. Or are all current Nyala's stonewashed and have the darker blade?

I believe they only come with either PVD or Stonewashed finish, you're best off asking the dealer what they have.

I've learned today that the darker coated coloring on some of the Nyala blades is called PVD.

Does anyone own a Chris Reeve Nyala with the PVD coating and if so, how does it wear? Has the PVD worn off through regular use? Does it show marks and scratches?

I have two with the PVD coating and so far haven't had any wear issues, but have kept my use to cutting bait, opening packages and some food prep.

Shoot me a PM or email and I have some more thoughts.

When I handled a PVD coated Nyala I decided to hunt down one with the stonewash finish. Frankly, I just didn't like the look of the coating. It seemed to fingerprint very easily, if that matters to you.

Not owning a PVD Nyala, I can't speak to durability.
