Hear me out here. I need an unbiased opinion, so maybe I'm asking in the wrong forum. =D

But you guys and gals have yet to lead me astray so I shall continue to trust your judgement.

Is it worth selling my fixed blades and picking up a one piece?

It would be my only large, fixed blade I would own and I would certainly use it.

I guess my only concern is, is it worth the trouble of using an out of production blade or should I just stick with my custom RMD?

The one piece would really be doing anything and everything and ideally I would like to make sure it would be able to match up to something like the RMD.

So, if the general answer is a yes, then I'd also like a suggestion of what models I should be on the lookout for, I.e which ones offer most utility for the price.

Thanks again everybody

Speaking as someone who has owned both and currently has a one piece up for sale I wouldn't replace the RMD with one. The one pieces are great but so is the RMD. I agree with cut it out, you should have both. At least then you would have both in hand to decide if you like one over the other.

I like the Project 1 and the skinner depending on the mission. Got a Shadow 1 inbound, that's the biggest one they make, curious to see how that one works out. See if you can handle one before you buy cuz they can get expensive.

Love the mountaineer although the round handles arent really comfortable during extended use.

This one was nice just not my cup of tea

Both are great choices, I like the trailing point of the sable a lot. The mountaineer differs in size from the 1 to 2, one is similar in size to an aviator I believe.

Are they worth it to actually use?

I just don't want the hassle of repairs or maintence on an out of production knife, you know?

I want to make sure before I pick one up that I'm absolutely getting my money's worth, and I won't have to baby it.

For instance, I know my seb can do pretty much anything, but when it comes down to it, if its really hard/dirty work ill opt for another knife. I really want this fixed blade to be able do everything that its size and materials allow it to do.

A2 is tool cutting steel so I don't see a problem unless you start abusing the knife. Get one designed for your intended mission.

Picked up a nib project 1 a few months back - well worth it.

Save up - keep your fixed blades and add the one piece to the collection.

The only time I've ever seen one fail was when Nos hit it with a 3lb sledge hammer. I don't boton with a sledge hammer so I don't worry about it. RPW is another option that is currently in production. The maker worked for CRK for 15 years before breaking off to do his own thing.

Long live the CRK One Piece Range. I have them and use them. They are great.
