I apologize in advance if this has been covered in a previous thread, but I want to purchase my first Chris Reeve Sebenza. What are the trade off's between the regular and the classic and which do you prefer?

Thanks!

I like the classic better --
Here's what I see as the pros:
- Smoother handles -- I don't like the scallops on the regular model; they are slightly less comfortable to grip and use.
- Pointier blade -- Thinner tip means better piercing ability. I use the tip of the knife a lot so this is important to me.
- Bigger lock cutout -- This makes it easier to deal with using gloves.
- Sleeker look -- Simpler design appeals more to me.

However, the Regular models have a lot going for them too. The scallops do add a good amount of grippiness to the knife which is really nice. The stouter blade looks better designed for abuse though both seem plenty strong.

The Classic is my favorite too. The Regular is theoretically more secure because of the handle shape, and theoretically longer-lived because of the deeper grind.
But the Classic is going to live as long as needed also - which is to say, longer than you - and the grip is much more ergonomic.

Thanks a lot for the help!! And thanks Buckabee for the warm welcome! I handled both for about 30 minutes today and decided to go with the regular. I loved the classic and almost went with it, but for me the regular was easier to close with one hand than the classic. I can definitely see myself owning classic as well in the future. These knives are awesome!

My large Sebbie is a Classic (Dog Paw) model. It's very comfortable when I carry it and use it. My small EDC Sebbie is a regular, though. It's more comfortable as a small Sebbie than the Classic I had. I have no trouble with the lock and I like the very slightly wider blade profile... more like a Ritter shaped blade, which is my all time fav blade shape for my folders.

I like the smooth flow of the Regular better and, most importantly, it feels better in my hand.

I have the Regular and wish I had bought the Classic. The larger cutout for opening would make consistent opening much easier. If I have my blade tightened so it does not wobble, then it is hard to open without a strong wrist flip. I hear that Sebenzas are sooo smooth but mine isn't. And I don't have opening problems on other thumb stud folders. Maybe it will smooth out over time, but not yet.

Muddog49,

There should be NO wobble in a Sebenza due to the design and engineering. You also can't tighten the blade down with the bushing system that CRK uses.

I have a Large Regular and I can tell you I really appreciate the ridges on the handle. I think the lockbar is equally easy to disengage on both models.

My large classic micarta inlay is my favorite for everyday use. I have fancier Sebs but the micarta inlay is the one I always have on me. It's a great do anything and go anywhere knife that I don't hesitate to use for fear of scratching it or getting it wet or dirty.
