This is the first post I have ever made, and was just looking for a little info. I have a friend who has both a Large Sebenza and a Mnandi with snakewood scales. He is looking to thin out his collection a bit, and offered to sell me one of the two. I know they are both great knives, but was just wondering which one would be a better choice for my new EDC.

They are two different knives. That would really be a personal choice. If it was me, i would take the large seb w/snakewood. Cant go wrong with either. enjoy, they are great knives.

I think your best bet would be to spend some time in the CRK sub forum, and ask the people that have both and can give fair and honest report of the benefits of either. Then decide which will suit your needs.

That it the one I am sort of leaning towards. I had a knife in S30V a while back, and was not really impressed. It kept a fine edge, but chipped on me a couple of times. Is all S30V brittle?

I've never heard of CRK's S30V being brittle, if anything a little to soft maybe. I like it very much at the hardness it is at.

If the Seb is a Regular one 2007-8 or earlier I would take the Seb, since they are no longer in production, and if it's BG-42 or ATS it's worth even more.

You can't go wrong with a Sebenza, I've put my Small Sebenza up against every knife that i've seen, held or owned over the last year or two and I havn't found a single knife that has even come close to the quality, crafstmenship of the Sebenza.

And on the s30v being brittle, it must of had a bad heat treat on it, every s30v sebenza that i've used never had a problem with chipping, the edge would roll under very hard use, but by putting a micro bevel on it, i've never had the problem since, the razor sharp edge wears off but it still has a good working edge for a long time after that.

It is a large Sebenza The build card says April, 30 2009, so a newer one then your talking. Is the quality still top notch?

The Sebenza will be a better user knife than the Mnandi. I assume that you have, or will have a chance to handle both: the Mnandi, while very nice, is diminutive next to the Sebenza.

If your everyday life brings you into contact with a lot of people who aren't into knives, or you frequently work in an office, the Mnandi might be a better choice.

In any case, I don't really think you could go wrong with either of them.

you worded the question wrong. it should be which should i buy first lol. i know its a hard decision i am trying to make it now. i am torn between a starbenza or a damascus mnandi.
