Chris Reeve Small Sebenza 21 vs Strider PT-CC

I'd like to start by saying that I'm new to the forum and this is my debut post. I've found this forum to be one of the most useful resources I've come across and look forward to contributing to it.

My question is in regard to replacing my primary carry knife: a Benchmade Mini Dejavoo. It has a lot of great features, and one of the best looking and functioning blades I've used, but there are numerous downsides that lead me to want to trade up to one of two options: a Chris Reeve Small Sebenza 21 or a Strider PT-CC.

I've read a bit about each and had some minimal exposure to the Small Sebenza and larger Strider (either an SnG or SMF) at a show. Yet, I don't feel quite settled into either enough to decide between them. My lifestyle is mostly that of an office dweller, so I'm not cutting wood or rope, or skinning a hunt, but I would like to have something capable of crossing over to either side (even if it falls short on one). With the Sebenza, my favorite feature is the fit and finish, though I dislike the slightly gritty texture of the titanium handle (I'm generally not a fan of the metal, prefer steel). With the Strider, the overall rugged construction and beefy blade is the main draw, though I am somewhat concerned about the size of the PT-CC - can't quite grasp how it compares in that department to the Small Sebenza, though I would consider the Sebenza to be the ideal size (on a side note, does anyone happen to know if Strider makes a comparably sized model?).

So my deadlock brings me here, to solicit the advice of more experienced users. Perhaps someone owns both and can provide more food for thought? Maybe some comparison photos? Any feedback on the matter would be helpful and much appreciated. Thanks ahead for taking the time to read this, and for any replies.

Google this and you will get a bunch of info to look over including videos:

How do you know I haven't done that already but didn't find enough sufficient info so now I'm seeking it here? Since when is "Google it!" a constructive answer to anything? Thanks for your time, anyway.

It's constructive because all the information you seek is out there for you to find.
I am with Biginboca by also assuming you've done very little research.

I'm sorry for my not-so-positive post.

Well I don't feel my input was helpful and appreciated, lol!

Crusader, there are already comparison pics and video on this subject and it has been discussed in great detail over the years, so I was just steering you to where it was. These a not new models so there really isn't anything new to say about them that isn't there in the tons of threads, images, and videos to which I directed you.

I took my time (all 15 seconds of it, lol!) to find a source of info and steer you to it, you actaully don't seem very appreciative so I will move on now...

I had a similar story and bought the small sebenza carbon fiber model.

I like it and don't regret not getting the strider.

Get the Sebenza, better CQ, More office-friendly, and they're great to deal with if you have any questions. I've had several folders, but small Sebenza is BY FAR the best folding purchase I've ever made.

Edit: Make it an insingo!

I've owned both. The sebenza is a much nicer and sheeple friendly knife. The PT looks slightly aggressive and "tactical". The PT did not have the smoothness and the fit and finish of the small seb. If you don't like the finish on the seb handles then change it. Scotch-briting sill make it really smooth and shiny. Stonewashing gives it a whole new look.

Thanks, I didn't even realize they made a carbon fiber model. A nice alternative to titanium, only wish there was a full-stainless variation. :)

there is an online dealer that has carbon fiber small sebenzas with free shipping.
google can help ya for that model.

Thanks for the photos, Maprik. Both fine looking alterations in their own right. I have to say I am leaning more toward the Sebenza now, for all the reasons stated (particularly the fit and finish). Thanks for your input.

If you like choils, you'll probably prefer the PT. If you like to disassemble your knives, that's easier in the Sebenza. Thumbstuds? Sebbie. Opening hole? PT. Etc. Etc. Etc.

I've had both & ended up with a small 21 Insingo (Any small Sebenza will do, though). Of the 8 or so Striders I've owned (PTs & SnGs), the F&F of the PTs tended to be better than the SnGs. Of the 7 or so Sebenzas I've had (Lg, small, reg, classic, 21, etc), none of them had ANY issues, so there is that in the Seb's favor. I would say the Seb is more "sheeple" friendly, though I thought the PT could handle heavier use (Borderline abuse).

Strider's new mini-SJ75 might be an alternative, though it is a little bigger than both. I recently got rid of the Insingo, replacing it with a 3" XM-18, but for what they go for on the secondary market, I wouldn't recommend those (Unless you can get one direct or don't mind spending about 2x what the others cost).

As to not liking all Ti handles, you can always try to get a micarta inlay model or contact one of the many members on BFs that can make a G10 scale for it. I did that to a number of my Sebs (I recommend "Tuffthumbz", but there are several good ones on BFs).

I also now carry a 3" XM-18 slicer. It's like the perfect marriage of the small seb and a strider. But you've gotta pay double than the small seb. For me, it's worth it. YMMV.

Deffinitely the Sebenza, I wouldnt buy a Strider if they were the last knife company on the planet, sorry...

I would strongly advise you to go for a large sebenza/umnumzaan/SNG/SMF instead. unless you have child like hands, the two knives your looking at are simply too small.

Large Seb is still very light and pocketable. I don't understand why people would want a small one.

I don't think having child like hands has anything to do with it. Some people just want a smaller knife. Also, some people live in places where they might not be able to "legally" carry a knife with a blade over 3".
