I'm a little embarassed to post this because it's not very 'positive.' But any discussion it generates will hopefullly be useful. I should say that I do like Chris Reeve knives. I have a small Sebenza that is excellent in every way, and I have two damascus Mnandi folders with exotic wood handles that are also terrific (except the damascus steel used in both won't take a very good edge). Anyway, I was fooling around making knife photographs and liked the way this one turned out.
The knife itself (I'm told) is unusual for its Tanto style blade. This one was from a very limited run and apparently Chris Reeve doesn't even like a Tanto style fixed-blade. There are certainly none (fixed-blades that is) featured on his web-site.
It's a tough blade due to the full thickness spine but uncomfortable to hold and use without a glove due to the sharp checkering. Although I removed it for the photograph, I put a black rubber mountain bike handle-bar grip on the handle and that works like a charm. The end of the handle un-screws revealing a water-tight storage space inside like the Airman model and others.
I haven't found much use for the knife really. It doesn't chop well because of the hollow blade grind and lack of mass. And it transmits vibration/shock undampened to the hand in a manner that is unpleasant. There's no belly on the blade and the blade is too long for a utility knife (9 inches, 13 3/4 OAL). In the class of single guard knives this size and price-range I would pick, for example, a Randall Model 16 'Diver's Knife' as it will do everything this knife won't (I own both).
If anyone else would like to comment - please do. I'm open to being educated in case I'm missing something here. I purchased this knife very early on in my knife-collecting 'career.' That's how we learn, I guess.
