Hey guys, newbie here.
I recently bought a CRK Sebenza 31, small with a raindrop Damascus pattern from KnifeJoy. Upon cleaning the blade, I've found some weird brown areas on one side of the blade and a few specks on the spine:

Does it look like rust to you all or am I overreacting?
The date on the card that came in the box says January 19, 2023 so it was made fairly recent.

Looks like rust staining to me. What did you clean the blade with? Was the rust there before?

Don't panic, there are solutions and you can get it off without doing any damage. Sometimes you can simply just wipe it off in fact.

I just used basic dish washing soap and warm water, scrubbed using my fingertips. The spots were there before I washed it.

Are there any cleaners I should try using? I've applied a layer of camellia knife oil but it doesn't seem to do the job.

The most common thing I've seen is Flitz in my own personal experience. If worse comes to worse you can always have CRK re-etch it.

Not sure what the humidity is like where you live or how you store your blades, however these are variables to consider.

On the CRK website, it recommends using Soft Scrub so I'm going to see if I can ahold of any tomorrow and try again. I don't want to try anything not recommended since I don't want to wear out the blade.
If it doesn't work, I'm not sure if I should contact KnifeJoy for an exchange or CRK and ask if they can do anything about it.
I tried washing it in warm water again and scrubbed with a sponge with dishwasher soap to clean it and nothing seemed to have change. Also tried the blade oil, again with scrubbed with a sponge and again, no change.

I received the knife today and I keep my knives oiled if I'm not going to use them for a while.

Dang man, that's a bummer. If you just received the knife today, I'd honestly try to just return it. Don't touch it anymore if you're going to do that. The vast majority of CRK's damascus blades are stainless damascus, and although stainless will still rust, it shouldn't happen very often and only if put away wet for a while really. I'd just send that puppy back, sucks that you drew a crappy hand in the luck game, however either the dealer or CRK will make it right I'm sure if you just received it.
