In Duncan's epic giveaway I was informed I was basically a last minute extra winner simply because he liked my pictures, that gesture alone was prize enough but this takes the cake.

The Wostenholm IXL is almost a nail breaker but still manageable, and the Grohmann is just interesting and cool.
My first Sheffield knife and my first Canadian knife, so that's awesome.
I will be carrying these knives for the rest of the year, maybe not both at the same time but I'll definitely carry both of them.
I said I don't like swedged spear point blades in my turn-off thread, but this one isn't super crisp and pronounced like many are and I actually like it.
This knife definitely has lots of old world charm and I just love it.
Thanks a Big one Duncan, you're awesome:thumbsup:

These knives came way earlier than expected btw.

Inhave been thinking of buying one of those folding Grohmans. I love canadian style fixed blades and thought a folder would be cool

This is never a knife I'd look at and say " gotta have it " and I always thought they looked a bit strange, but man it just feels right in hand.
My eyes didn't love it but my hand instantly did and my eyes are definitely getting used to it quickly.

That IXL is AWESOME!!

Well done Legend :)

Definately well and beyond what I expected.
Btw one of my favorite things is the stamp on the back of the I*XL which says "oil the joints ", just thought that was funny since the backspring is so strong and the knife needed some oil.
Any idea if these knives can be dated ?
Btw if the other winner is logged on right now I'd love to know what your mystery knife was.

Thank you for sharing your photos  Well deserved win! And thank you Duncan for your generosity and for a great giveaway!

Well, it was deserved, I picked up that I*XL in our Local market - I was surprised to see just how intact this I*XL was as the sellers photos were very poor, that Blade has had very little use, and yep- the Earlier Wostenholms could be hard to open- but this Knife has had little use and I believe that yes it will always be strong springed - it should soften slightly with use, and I can tell you that that will sharpen to an absolute Razor!.
I put a wee drop of oil in before I sent the Knife.
I*Xl have used the "Oil the Joints " Stamp for many-a -Year, I gifted my Sheffield book to Paul so referencing when the I*XL famous slogan of "Oil the Joints " is hard.
That Grohmann is a wonderfully built Knife with walk and talk that is simply superb - a thicker grind for tougher outdoor use- man that Knife is a Honey, if anyone is thinking of buying one- do it I recommend them highly.
Well done kind Sir! and thank you for the kind words.

That is a terrific pair, I especially like that IXL! As mentioned above, those Sheffield carbon steel blades take a fantastic edge:thumbsup:

This sure is a knife that could use an EO notch, but I wouldn't dream of modifying this beautiful old knife and don't particularly like the looks of them so came up with another solution.

I can hook this knife pick in the nail Nick and pull it open to the half stop then use my fingers to open it the rest of the way.
Works pretty well and doesn't hurt my thumbnail.

I can leave it hanging on my belt loop and just use it from there. Opening and using my knives is normally never a race for time so this won't bother me at all.

The walk and talk on the Grohmann sure is great, opens nice and smoothly with a nice snap and the lock is easy to disengage.
I haven't got a super razor edge on the I*XL yet but did get it sharp enough for most daily tasks.

'Oil The Joints' was used by a number of Sheffield cutlery firms, first on the tangs, and later, on the steel scales of later WW2 stainless 'Burma Knives'

Congrats on winning a couple of splendid knives, Hickory n steel!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: How do you like the positioning of the lock release on that intriguing Grohmann? I've found that I prefer "middle" or "front" position over a lock release at the rear of the handle.

Accolades to Duncan for his legendary graciousness, and for sponsoring a GAW with such fascinating photos, especially the ones involving pets!:cool::D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'm used to Bucks, but I don't mind it's positioning much.

I've tried, but it's hard to keep that Grohmann in my pocket.
There's just something about it that infatuates me, every time I open it there's this very pleasing click open.
It's very different than the loud snap I'm used to with my Buck lockbacks. I'm not sure, but I think it's due to the mid lock design. either way it's hard to stop fiddling with this awesome knife.
thanks again Duncan, I have no doubt it'll be easy to carry this knife for the rest of the year ( same goes for that I*XL )

Congrats on two fine knives !

Hats off to Duncan for a great Contest and GAW :thumbsup:

Thanks guys
I too found that Grohmann a fantastic knife to carry. I very quickly fell for it. Never did I think it was an ugly knife as I have always loved the fixed Blades the Grohmann make- finding a folder? = perfect.

Just curious how it works ended up with me if you liked it so much, just didn't carry it as much anymore ?

I know I'm glad to have it.
