Well, I came home for the weekend (Finals next week... :barf: ) for my folks' Christmas party, and they tell me that a good family friend who's very into weaponry has given me a gift. They say it's on my bed and that I can't miss it. Hmmm. And it is...

A Scottish claymore. Jeez, this thing has to be almost 6 feet long and appears to be fairly well-made. I'm just floored. I feel like going outside and yelling, "FREEDOM!!!" :D :D

I like the later claymores with the downsloping quillions. Of course, nothing beats a well-made basket-hilt except maybe a well-made dusagge. Is your sword a stainless or hi-carbon blade?

Man congrats Chris. Pics!

congrats, Chris:D I've always wanted a gigantic claymore.

I think you should go outside when you can get away with it, swing that monster over head and yell, "freedom", just like you said.

IT's not quite the same thing, but I remember with joy the many times I was working on the Psych Unit and I'd suddenly yell: "Set my People Free,"

Staff never quite got over that one.....

I could quite get into the half blue face thing, but one can take the William Wallace bit too far. Being drawn and quartered, for instance.

Munk, how 'bout yelling "Let my People Go!" I'd bet that if you threw a staff onto the floor in the psych ward, some of the folks would swear it'd turned into a snake ...

That's the image I portrayed doing the yell, alright.
The chief psychologist gave me a dirty look once....

Yeah, it's a beauty. A little rattle somewhere in the handle, but it doesn't feel like a problem. It feels quite solid.

I'm not sure if it's stainless or carbon. I think it's carbon, though. Of course, I was too busy saying "Oh my God, Thank you!!!" to ask what kind of steel, the Rockwell hardness, and whether it was hand-tempered by a man with a blue face and a kilt. :D ;)

I'll post pics next week. I'm just home for the weekend, and my camera's at school. Finals this week, then I'll be home and I'll bring my camera. Wish me luck. Maybe I should bring the claymore to my finals for, um, luck? :D

Cool.

couldn't resist posting a pic (above)....:D

I am a big fan of the claymore...maybe someday when my kids are a little more grown...I'll pick one up.

What's it weigh?

I'm back at school now (and it's not :( ), so I can't tell you for sure. It's perty darn heavy! I'd definitely not like to be hit upside the head with one.
