Christmas Conspiracy

Pretty quiet round here of late, thought I'd share the bounty of a conspiracy conspired by my wife and Yangdu.

Wife who is very good at thinking up great Christmas gifts acted like she was stuck (a façade I should have seen right through) but I told her if she was stuck and really wanted an idea, just send whatever you want to spend to Yangdu and have her send something. She asked which one, told her it don't matter none at all, it'll be good no matter what it might be.

Well about 3 weeks ago I got a nice Foxy Folly sent from Auntie and inside was another knife but had Irene (my wife's) name on it. So I gave it to her unopened but she refused to open it. Said she'd wait till Christmas, I told her no need for that, just open it but she wouldn't budge. I was dying with anticipation (for her of course) since I couldn't really tell through the paper what it was. Tried the whole time to get her to open it to no avail.

Well come Christmas morning lo and behold I unwrap a package that I didn't even recognize as a khuk, used to the triangle box I guess. Well I get the wrapping paper off and I see the newspaper and it's still got Irene's name on it. So I said I wasn't opening it, it was for her, she ordered me to do so.

Well this is what was inside.

Thankfully since I been a wanting a Tamang badly for some time, she told me it was actually for me and she had spoke to Auntie on the phone, she didn't specify a Tamang so that must have been Santa Yangdu's idea, I suspect she knew I been a wanting one.

This is a sweet sweet knife, perfect in every way, very sharp, slim handle made for my hand, no modification needed in the least.
She's just under 17" and 19.67 ounces on me relatively new digital scale. Light and fast.

Well I was struck down the Christmas eve day with a bad cold, I think my mom who was over the 22nd gave it to me, kind of a rough feel lousy Christmas but not enough to keep me from watching the granddaughter who had a blast.
So today still feeling pretty lousy I was just kind of tinkering and thought I'd give the Tamang my usual new attention. Oiling and such.
Remembering a thread about the waxy feel on some handles of which this was one for sure I decided rather than just sanding a bit and oiling I'd try to thoroughly remove the polishing compound which I suspected was the culprit.
I used Birchwood Casey Cleaner Degreaser, mostly cause I had it around and hardly ever use it. I'm happy to report it worked very well. It took away all the polishing compound and actually raised the grain of the wood again, requiring just a tiny bit of sanding. Between the Cleaner and the sanding it removed most of the discoloration, leaving the handle pretty blonde.

Then I simply gave it the linseed oil treatment and went into my happy dance.

I really love the look of this knife, quite handsome, feels a bit like a KLVUK which is mighty fine as we all know. Kind of stylish.

I also found that the sheath was really tight just in one little spot in the in and out process so completely throwing caution to the wind I took a page from Ndog's biography and pulled the top of the leather out of the sheath, I removed a little piece of the leather on the back strap, just a little bitty piece, and stuffed it back down inside, no glue or anything and now it's perfect, slides in and out just right, this whole process took probably about 3 minutes. I wanted to do it because it was rubbing on the black forge and I didn't want to rub any more of that off since I think it looks really swell.

Needless to say I was quite the happy camper and wish to thank Santa Yangdu and my wife for sneaking and conniving behind my back.

Almost can't wait to get back to work so I can show it off but really not all that bad, another week off would be really nice but not in the cards.

My Marine son who I spent some time at the knife wall with kind of lit up seeing this Tamang, something about it apparently must have sang to him.
He told us it's now confirmed he'll be going to Irag first part of April. Basically guarding the consulate or something of that nature. Pretty routine. I tried to reinforce in his mind that nothing was routine in the sand box and the minute he gets lax, bad things could happen.
I enlightened him on the information that Spectre shared with me inspiring the design of his ARK knife.

I might have to score him a Tamang or possibly a katunje or something. I told him I'd send anything he felt he wanted and was allowed to have, no questions asked.

Nice story, nice blade, great wife, and of course, santa Auntie.

Awesome awesome knife. I wanted that one real bad, being a Kumar and also neem wood handles, but I'm very glad it went to you. You'll love it. As I've said and you already hinted at, it's very much like a Super KLVUK. They bite quite deep. I kinda like those black grain marks on my neem handles, so I ain't sanding em just yet, but that nice blonde color looks fantastic as well.

We always spend Christmas at my best friends house, with his and one of my other friends' family. This year, I decided to spread the khukuri love. I brought a bunch of blades, including both swords, for show and tell, plus some gifts. I gave my best friend my camo hat by Kanchi along with a crossed brass khuk pin for the hat, and also my very first HI khuk, a 15" BAS by Kumar. I gave him the choice between that or a Dhan Gopte, he picked the slightly lighter and shorter one.

Our other good friend joined the military this year, and is only back til Sunday. I wasn't even sure he was gonna be here, but I decided he needs an HI knife as well. Unlike our other buddy who's up in the middle of nowhere Maine for school, he probably wouldn't get to play with a full-sized khuk that often on base (could be wrong). Combine that with the fact that I don't know squat about the military knife carry regulations, and I decided not to bring a big one for him. I brought both my BVCAKs, one of which I blued and made a kydex sheath for. I told him my thoughts about the bigger khuk, and offered him either of my little CAKs, whichever he liked. I could already hear the blued one singing to him as he reached for it.

He clipped it on his waist and wore it around for the night, before finally deciding it liked him. We talked about khukuris for a while (not that you'd guess from my posts..), and he said he'd always been interested and wanted one. Like the truly infected HIKV patient that I am, I happily pointed both of them in the direction of the forum, for current guidance and future purchases :)

Bawanna, I'm really happy for you. That was a great Christmas present and t'were a delightful story, too. Um...you mentioned a "Happy Dance", I believe. You should post a short video so us less fortunate forumites can make ourselves familiar with such a thing should we ever get a similar gift. I even betcha Kamidog would agree with me.

Well I only recently mastered the art of still photo's, but I shall take no rest and immediately delve into the science of moving picture shows.

Coming to a thread near you. bawanna's happy dance.

I make Michael Jackson look like a resident in a convalescent center, oh guess that was my house. I taught him most of his moves.

Does that mean if I was your friend I'd join the military too?
