Well it's getting near that time again to request a nice, sharp present :D.

This year I have it narrowed down to two knives and both are by buck. Hell both are the same knife. I'm talking about the Kalinga Folder. This knife is the only knife I have looked at in awhile and said "must have".

The only thing holding me back is I cant decide on which one to get. I would like the Kalinga 419 because it is oh so nice, except most places I look do not seem to be in stock. Another reason I can't decide is because this knife will probably the last knife I get before I head off to college so I would like to make sure it will last, and also I use all of my knives and this one will be no different.

So if you were me which would you get, the 419 or the 415?

Hmmm... tough call... If it is going to be a gift from someone to you... then i would go all out :D

I bought one of each and they are both great! The brass and S30V 419 is definately my favorite though!
Really you cant go wrong with either of them!

Well of course it's from someone to me. Isn't that what this Santa man is all about?

Which one of those two do you find yourself using more?

I just bought them both. I'm too impatient to wait for santa ;)

I bought the camo versions to make sure I liked them before I purchased the S30V.

I only carried the camo ones each day (closing weekend) during deer season.
I didnt get to cut anything though. But they open smooth and the handles are very comfortable.

The 419 and 408 just arrived today. I have only held them for about 2 hours now, I cant put em down ;)

If they are to be from Santa, I would go 419!

Maybe this will help!

Its a tough call, I am a huge fan of the S30V. BUT there is nothing wrong with Bucks 420HC either. I actually prefer to edc the 420HC, I can get it scary sharp real easy! It also holds an edge to get me through the day.
The S30V will stay sharp longer though! All of these seem just as sharp as the other!
I normally prefer to carry the tactical cordura nylon sheath ;) I don't like it when the leather gets soaked in the rain or covered in mud etc... the cordura sheaths can easily be washed... BUT these leather sheaths really make these Kalingas look nice!
I love all the brass on the 419, 408. Really looks great, but they are a tad heavier than the others too... Also the S30V has more of a polished finish on the blade, the 420HC blades still show the grind lines (which isn't necessarily bad) but the S30V is almost mirror polished.
Also the dimensions over all of each model are the same so that doesn't really become an issue.
Well I hope I helped you out a little bit! Good luck! Let us know which way you go!

Very nice writeup wh4f -- I like your stradegy, don;t know what to get. Just buy one of each :) I think Santa is going to have to get his own presents this year!

Alright well when Christmas comes around I'll let you know. For now I must just stare at them until i decide. :D

If you are going to carry on campus grounds the 419 will be more discrete....
