Out chopping this morning and I figured I'd get my camera and take a couple pics.

Here's my nmfshle. I hit it with a light coat of spray plasti dip to easily see where the sweet spot is:

Worked MUCH better than I expected, I even plunged the tip in to see how well it penetrates. Not bad for oak and such a thick blade. You can see the sweet spot for chopping is right about in the middle.

I noticed after I took this picture I had mt first ever Busse tri-fecta! RH, NMFSHLE, 1311:

The 1311, I call it the chopfather:

Here's my RH, I had RichrdJ put a secondary bevel on the top edge, good for making flat spots:

Main edge cuts deep, you can see the beard poking out a bit

Lovin the spike:

While I had the RH flipped around, striking with the spike, I caught my sleeve a bit with the beard  didn't get any skin, went through my outer shirt, but not my base layer

Merry Christmas!

Great pics! Thanks for sharing. I've been thinking more and more about the rattle hawk. I wish I knew the weight...

Cool pics. Glad you did not cut yourself.

Thanks

Sorry, I don't have a scale. It's not too heavy, we're all (okay, mostly ;)) men here and it chops like the dickens. I'm planning on picking up an Eagle Talon or Shrike (maybe both...) when I pop my Blade cherry, so wait a few months and I'll throw up a mini, cross species, review:)

A faster way might be to ask the guys over in the Swamp Rat forum

I love mine, I was thinking abut the KDSH, but I'm a little taller and I like to use the advantage of a longer tool.

Man, that looks like a blast! The hawk was just trying to show how much she loves you. It's kinda like a peck on the cheek. ;)

.

Nice! Dan you had me with that coated NMFSHLE :D I really thought you got you CG NMFSH already and was jealous :)!

yeah kniferman, with all the treachery around here, I had to get in on some :D

I only did that side, that's why when you asked for more pics I went silent lol

That plasti-dip trick works pretty well, I'm proud of myself for that. It's quick and easy to apply and if you want you can just peel it right off, I'm not worried about it hurting my Busses. Of course you can see the wear on the coated blades over time, but for instant gratification, it's nice.

I'll tell you, satin holds up extremely well. I clean my satin Busses with green liquid Flitz, it's not as heavy as the blue paste and doesn't mirror polish as fast, before I put them in leather (kydex+satin makes me cry :() and I can't see hardly any marks on any of my satin blades, and trust me, I'll sit there in the sun and look hard for them.

I was thinking about contacting the shop and see if I could have a chopper made satin on one side and coated on the other. Weird, I know, but I like oddball things sometimes and the only person I'm trying to make happy is myself.

I thought it was weird when you whent silent... couldn't imagine why someone wouldn't post pics after receiving their score 24 hrs after a ganzaaa. I wasn't even expecting an email until well after Christmas. When I got the email from Pokey the next day saying my knives were ready to ship I didn't know what to do :D.

I love satin blades and they hold up just as good as the coated blades in my area. As long as you take proper care of them. I can't really imagine a half and half version with coating and satin , but I'm with you on the kydex+satin tears :(. I've been making my own kydex lined leather sheaths for my satin blades. I might purchase a craftsmen account and offer a limited amount if I can ever get around to it.

Wait, you mean leather-lined kydex, right? I had that flipped in my brain a little bit...

Looks like you had a great time. The plastic dip is a great idea. Can't say I have heard of that being done before.
