Christmas Eve in hospital, then Norwalk virus.....

Its been a rough couple of days here. My wife started having early labor on Xmas eve and we had to take her in. She spent all night and half of xmas day in hospital. She seems to be fine now, and baby's still in there where she should be.

Christmas night my daughter yelled for me at midnight--bed covered in vomit. Long night.

Yesterday it hit me and laid me out flat. Had the chills so bad that the bed shook and spent 5 or 6 brutal hours on the john--both ends were working.

All seems to be ok for now here. Hope to hell the rest of you had a better couple of days!!

Rob,

I'm glad to hear everyone is doing better... especially Mom and baby. The Norwalk virus is going around here too (I guess that's what's making people puke these days). I suppose you could look at it in a positive light... at least you didn't drop a grand or more for a cruise to get it :p

I hope you and your family have a better New Years.

Warmest regards,

Alan

And I just thought I had problems.
The Great Southern Ice Storm caused the monster pin oak in my front yard to shed branches into my roof, and now the whole damn roof has to be replaced. Of course the wonderful insurance company is only going to pay for the side that was damaged...:(

This house is 70 yrs old, and had 2 layers of shingles over....wooden shakes, fer gawds sake! All that has been stripped off and now there are hammers and nail guns going morning to night over my head.

My bank account is emptying at a dizzying rate ....oh well.

No new khuks for a while. But at least the Mrs and I are healthy.

Hang in! We're looking for 70 mph winds in Reno today. I don't know how that awning hangs on but it does.

Are these kinds of winds normal around Nevada, or is this an El Nino thing?

Up on Hudson's Bay I have seen 70mph winds, but I thought that kind of vicious weather was limited to the arctic and the tropics.

Rob, sorry you and your family have been doing poorly. Am glad everyone is on the mend.

Uncle, at least your 70mph winds are not Tornados. Way to many have touched down just 5 miles south of me this semester.

Mike L., if the hammering is bothering you, you're welcome to stay at my place. We have a warm fire place and a new roof.:)

Thanks for well wishes guys:)

Alan--that's a damn good point! ROTFLMAO:D

Sorry to hear about your roof Mike:( I think I'd take the virus--at least it didn't cost me a fortune to puke my guts out:eek:

Uncle--hang on--70mph!!

The Norwalk virus? What's that? I hope it doesn't come north. Sounds like something released from a lab.
New Year will be better, I hope, Rob. Wife and Baby safe!!

Santa Ana winds can reach 70mph in Calif every season. This last season I noticed they shut the Freeways down in affected areas.

Wind gusts of 70+ are common in the Mountainess prarrie areas as well. Didn't Lewis and Clark write in a journal that the wind was so bad in Wyoming the land was not fit for habitation?
They joke in Wyoming that all rocks smaller than baseballs blew to Colorado...

Local papers usually full of important news like someone's shed blowing down...

Forgot to say that I am glad you guys are getting better. The wind thing threw me. Sometimes adversity makes holidays more memorable once things are past. You will have a story to tell your unborn kid a few years from now. Still sorry about the puke though. Sends shivers up my spine just thinking about it.

Munk,
Thanks for broadening my horizons. I thought those were getting to hurricane-class winds. They say that in Southern Alberta you don't have to tie up your dog: Just throw it against the windward side of a building...

Heber, thanks for the offer. But I gotta stay put for now.

Maybe I should send out my khuks for safekeeping????

Dayum Uwinv!!!!!!!
I am so glad that everyone is okay and that nothing serious came to fruition!!!!
Just shows to go you how intangible life can be from one day to the next!!!!!!!:(

I'm with Munk thogh, what is the Norwalk Virus? Never heard of it down here, at least.

Yvsa,

The Norwalk is what's been making the cruise lines crazy for the past month or more. Basically, from what I've read, it is just a really contagious, potent flu-like virus... whole ships have been infected while at sea, requiring them to be decontaminated when they arrive at port. Ever try to mop an entire crusie ship with a bucket of bleach??? :barf:

Bruise... if I recall, scientists found that the virus was spread throughout the cruise ships via cutlery used in the dining rooms. It likes hard, shiny objects :p

LOL. I'd like to confess something. I grew up around Santa Ana winds and always thought them just fun. Later, treking around the Mojave desert, sure, there was always wind, sometimes very bad. But when I made it to the Rocky Mountain West with a morning wind, afternoon wind, and evening wind I knew aggravation. Now, I wouldn't leave the West for nothing, but two thoughts came to mind, "Can't they turn this off?" and, "People live in this??" This second I attribute to some delicate thing daintily extending her foot from the expensive automobile only to quickly withdraw back into the vehicle and head for home.

As you wander across the rolling prarrie towards Canada you see the remains of small homesteads. They are usually miles from any neighbors. The horizon is truly Big Sky. And there aint nothing to stop either the thunderheads nor the wind from smacking you right off the face of the earth. It makes you wonder how much lonliness and fear a human can take. My hat is off to those who came before, and those who lived here before they.

..and what about lightening ?...

Mask, gloves, bio-suit, Lysol Spray, Mother Murphys' Oil Soap.....You'll be OK, Bruiser. Keep a couple of moist towels and an empty wastebasket nearby, just in case  :barf:

Yes, you should send them out for safekeeping. Send em my way, I'll take real good care of them. :D;)

Rob,

Rough night indeed. That virus sounds like real bad stuff. I hope you have better days ahead.

I was the next in line for the Pen knife! That visiual is stuck in my head now! :D All joking aside. I am glad that you and your family are recovering from what sounds like a hard Christmas. I hope that the new year brings a more peaceful and comfortable start.
BTW, Rob, you got me interested in the Gunting to the degree that I looked and found a complete numbered set with the tapes and everything that I will be buying in the next day or so. Maybe if the spring works well, we could both go to Brams class in Mass. That could be a fun event! Take Care and we will see Ya later!!:D
