As many of you know I was fortunate enough to get this 25 for Christmas:

2014-12-06 14.38.54 by BiggestJon, on Flickr

About a month before she gave it to me, she asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I showed her the 25 with micarta inlays. She gave it to me and I was ecstatic.

Well, last night we were drinking and enjoying ourselves and she told me a secret. She said she was going to get me a mammoth Mnandi with Damascus steel before I told her I wanted the 25. She said she was so happy that I wanted the 25.

I almost wanted to cry. Haha...

Muahahahaaaa

And that's a perfect example of how you can be the luckiest guy on earth with a woman who loves and understands him and completely feel like you've been kicked in the nuts all at the same time

Now all you have to do is buy her a nice set of ( small ) diamond ear rings and then a week later show her a pic of the rock that you were going to buy her for her finger- then remind her how hard she laughed at telling you about the knife. You better really have the ring in your pocket though or you'll have to pay the piper

Congrats on the 25, and I'm sure she was happy that you said you wanted the 25. That's saved her a good chunk of dough.

Should tell her that type of secret should have been kept to herself.

Either way you made out, enjoy your Christmas present!

And just in case that reads the wrong way, I only wish you the best.
Congrats on getting such a great gift.
Occasionally being given nice knives was one of many factors that helped my Lady become my Wife. It of course had nothing to do with the monetary part of it, nor was it the knives themselves; rather the fact that she knew me, my hobbies and passions, and accepted them without ever giving the " oh, you bought another knife " speech.

I didn't read it wrong, I thought it was awesome. I did get my wife a nice diamond ring for Christmas, so all is good. :)

My wife is so awesome. Let me tell you how awesome she is...
She and I received some money from her parents. We split the money to get some stuff that we want. She ENCOURAGED me to buy a 2nd PS4, for the bedroom, and she let me buy another CRK. What a wife! I wish I married her first.

Just consider the first wife practice ;D

I'm glad it didn't come across wrong, sometimes when I reread something I wrote it "sounds" different than I meant it to.

A second PS4, I'm still looking at a dusty PS2 that never gets used. I went from playing the PS2 to having 3 kids, now the coolest games I get to play are Uno, go fish, chutes and ladders, and the original Mario Bros on my antique Nintendo (NES).

You Sir have hit the jackpot.

Well I guess it's true what they say, all good things come to those that wait. Looks like you did good this time. It's kinda funny how things turn out.

This is why I've had bad luck in life...I'm too impatient:)

I do have a darn good wife and kids myself, but she is great in many different ways. I haven't been lucky enough for anything like this but we also have an agreement that we do not get each other gifts really, we focus on the kids. Although there are rare times when we break the agreement and this agreement is only because we do not always have the money to spoil each other with.

We suprise each other with other small gifts or gestures and sometimes those are just as great or greater than the bigger gifts;)

Still, hats off to the op, his wife and others that have their best moments as the op:thumbup:

I think the 25 is by far the better gift. Would you really carry the Mnandi? Yea its beautiful but IMO far from useful. Enjoy!!!!

Why would you say far from useful? Lots of guys carry a blade like that and use them daily.

Ok, 'Far' may have been the wrong word to use, I just feel the 25 is a better EDC then the smaller Mnandi.

Fair enough, but do not be decieved, the smaller knives by CRK are a LOT tougher than conventional "wisdom" on the forums might tend to indicate. In the right hands, much can be done with a small thin blade.

You might be surprised at what some members here have accomplished with a Mnandi...they go well beyond any reasonable definition of "EDC needs"

Not all of us can be so lucky to have a wife that understands our hobbies..My "practice" wife..Never. I sold every gun I had when I was with her and managed to get one Sebenza through some...*cough*covert*cough* means.
Current wife is far more supportive.. I have replaced the guns of long since gone and have just about anything I want within reason.

My wife gave me an early Christmas present, but it was a shocker. She bought me an Impofu :D

Of course...there is a price for all of this..As long as we know the price, then it's not so bad.

I have owned quite a few Mnandi over the years and I will say that they are an amazing little knife. Though small, they feel great in the hand. There is a certain amount of sophistication about them. They make you feel honored to use it. You WANT others to notice it and comment about it.

Yes, I would have carried the crap out of that knife. Maybe not as much as my 21s or 25, but it would find a place in my pocket. :)

I know what you mean on both counts. Haha...

I saw my ex yesterday and she asked me what I got for Christmas. I showed her my knife and she looked disgusted. That made me happy. :)

I doubt it! There is no crap IN that knife;) Your wife has some very nice tastes.

My wife actually discussed getting a mammoth large 21 for me...That would have been pretty cool, but at this particular time, I dont think I would appreciate it properly. It is too bad too, because I think if a guy will evver appreciate mamoth ivory, I do not think there will ever bbe an easier time to buy than now (and it is already gettting pretty tough to find it).

I would be surprised as I recently purchased a Small Sebenza CGG and hate it. The knife itself is beautiful to look at, but as a tool I feel it is a failure in my hands. I struggle to open it one handed and find it almost impossible to close one handed. I also find it very uncomfortable in hand when doing small cutting tasks. I guess it comes down to what a persons needs are. My needs are probably more demanding then most. Maybe I need to try a Mnandi.

It's more about comfort than needs. All of my smalls have done big jobs with no issue, but I think that's because I've found good ways to grip them. It could be that the small Sebenza just isn't a good fit for your hand! You don't need to try a Mnandi. If you find a small Sebenza useless as a tool, you're not going to like an even smaller knife.
