Question - do you guys get any knives as Christmas gifts?

Do you give knives to your friends (or family) for Christmas gifts?

Gifting ,or receiving a knife as a gift, is considered bad luck in Canada. But I do it anyways :D

I always give knives to the point that it has become almost a joke in our family. However i have converted most of the women to at least decent quality kitchen knives.

Give back a coin when you get a knife to break the bad luck.

Same thing in Russia!

BUT we have a way around - when somebody gave you the knife as a gift - you are "buying" it for 1 cent. I'm doing it all the time... Usually I gave 25 cents :)

Giving a knife is supposed to "cut the friendship" so giving a coin is a way to save it.

My Wife usually gets me a handmade knife for either my birthday or Christmas each year. Sometimes, for both.
This year, a Blind Horse bushcrafter for my birthday, and a smatchet by Plowshare forge for christmas.

I don't get any knives as a gift. But I do give them as gifts. The problem is people wouldn't know what type of knife to give me but I can easily see what type of knife they need.

I don't usually give knives because that's not what others in my family want, and my family knows that the knives I collect cost more than they want to spend, but I did buy a couple for myself with the discount you offered last year around Christmas.

Sounds like 50/50....

Ok!

I still think id does make sense for us to run Christmas special - 20-25% discount for some models.

agree?

Last year, during the Christmas sale, I bought a Federal-super and a Chieftain. They're both very solid knives. One never being enough, I've ended up buying two more Federal-supers as well as a Taiga at auction. My first ROS Arms knife was a Nona. I keep looking at the Kayman and Baby, but I haven't gotten them yet -- I like that Kayman blade; very straight and pointy, although it didn't seem to be available anymore when I last looked.

Ok!

December 8th - January 7th (Russian Orthodox Christmas)

for all Bladeforum members -
20% off on all
models...

I give knives as gifts. And I will be buying more ROS items soon both for my family and my own use Thanks for the 20% off kancler!

Gerber used to actually include a "payment coupon" for one cent with some knife sets that were sold by Abercrombie & Fitch in the late 1940's. The recipient of one of these sets was supposed to pay the person that gave them the set the one cent to break the bad luck.

BTW, I love getting knives for Christmas gifts and I'm not concerned in the least about bad luck. Anyone need my address:D?

Remember that first year I sold all those badgers and you guys gave me that Nona and made me pay a dollar?? lol

Yeah we need to observe Orthodox Christmas....I will be shooting soon, we will need to talk
