I know I don't post here, but couldn't think of a better place

I just finished this up for a friend of mine he is getting ready to spend his second Christmas in the sand box, I got the idea to do something nice for him when the wife and I were chatting with him on Yahoo messenger and he made the comment that we had sent him more care packages then all other people added together including his parent. This bothered us since we know we have only sent him two on this tour. He’s a bit of a gear guy so I thought I would put my sewing skills to the test by making him a MOLLE Christmas stocking.

So what I’m looking for is any advice from guys who have been there as to what to put in it. The wife and I are a limited budget as to what we can spend. We will be sending some of his favorite candy that he can’t get over there. Any Ideas would help.

Thanks
Chuck

Does he need or want a piece of gear? How about a bandana with friends and family member signatures? Or a journal with people's thoughts about him and a brief summary of what they have been doing? Telling him he is missed and how appreciative they are for his sacrifice goes a long way.

I'm sure he'll like it, like the guy before me said, a knife of course, maybe send him a DVD or two, a book, and a letter telling him how you're doing.
I'm currently in Afghanistan as well, he'll be happy to get anything haha, getting mail really makes your weeks better.

Man, we were sending my brother a care package like every month. Wound up being like 11-12 packages, for his first tour. It's nice of you guys. Hey, does he have a DVD player? Maybe a smaller portable one? Or if he does already, send some classics. You know, the ones everyone likes? Fargo, Dirtyharry, just random hits. Maybe a cribbage board? Those are fun, and it your get one long enough, you can play it for a couple of hours, and just leave it place for another time. Latest gear mags? Gum?

Maybe spyderco delica? Or another smaller knife. Mini grip? Socks?

Thanks for the ideas guy, he does have a lap top for DVDs, we talk to him on it.

So far we desided on a card from everyone. We are going to get some card board today, 5x7 punch holes along th edge and send one of these out to as many people as we can with pre paid return envolopes, we will get the back and turn them into on large card.

We are also talking small pocket knife, wool socks for winter, D ring or 2, mabey a small flash light, and some DVDs.

Keep the ideas coming.

Thanks again
Chuck
