When I was 10, my grandfather gave me my first hunting knife before the start of deer season. It was a file knife with antler horn. It was used to dress every deer I had killed and several turkeys. Unfortunately it's gotten lost in the last 5 years in the time of me getting married and moving. As I've gotten more interested in knives, I wanted that knife that was a gift from my grandfather who meant the world to me and got me interested in hunting.
Flash forward to Christmas Eve at my grandmother's house. My brother, cousin, and I were looking through the safes that kept my late grandfather's gun collection. In one of the pistol safes, my brother said there's some knives in here. I pulled out a Martinnii puuko, a generic NWTF knife, and then an old black Buck leather sheath. Inside that sheath was a similar knife from the same maker that I have been looking for, the knife my grandfather carried on his hip on every hunting trip together I remember. My grandmother didn't hesitate when I asked to have it. It's my favorite Christmas gift of the year by a long shot.
