Hi, all I'm new here. It seemed like everything I tried researching on google led me to this great forum! But I still haven't come to a decision. So, I thought I might as well register and ask you guys.

I am looking for a Christmas present for my dad. I have a budget of about $50. I know I can't get anything fantastic for that but I should be able to get something that will do the job of a decent everyday carry right? According to the info I've been finding in my price range the best I'm going to be able to do as far as blade steel type is the following. Is this correct? And also, I've listed a few links to knives I have been considering. I'm certainly not stuck on anything in particular. All help and recommendations are very welcome! Thanks so much for helping! :)

9Cr13CoMoV
8Cr13MoV
AUS-8
Sandvik 14C28N
GIN-1 (a couple of spyderco's caught my attention with this steel.) any good?)

What kind of knife does your dad like?

When I think dad knife, I think Case pocket, slip joint type knife.

Of the ones you listed I like the Benchmade. But I always like the Benchmade.

He has an older gerber that he caries now. It kind of has the appearance of some of the ones I listed, and he seems to like the style. just always complaining about not being able to keep it sharp. I'm not sure what kind of steel it is. But looking at some of the other gerbers, probably 440a?

I liked the benchmade too. And it's a little bigger than the others. which i think would be a plus for him. I know it's probably not true benchmade, but it looks like the quality would have to be pretty good if they market it. right?

I always hate bumping, but I really need some info if I'm going to order in time for christmas.
Thanks a bunch! :)

there's the Boker Plus Exskelibur II. Boker actually has a lot of models to look at around your price range.
