I don't know what to get my husband for Christmas. Can anyone give me any suggestions? He is currently making fixed blades and would like to one day make folders. I think he has almost every tool under the sun. I asked him if I could buy him a standing drill press or a new grinder, but he said no to both gifts. Maybe a tool that is out of the ordinary, but very helpful, something you wouldn't buy yourself but would make, making knifes a little easier. Again any help you can give me would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Well, if he doesn't want any of the expensive tools but you want to give him something knife related then something smaller and fun might be in order. I would maybe look at http://www.kovalknives.com and check out the Darrel Ralph 605 liner lock folder kits. They are a nice way to get him started on folders and fairly inexpensive. While you are at it get a pair of fancy wood handle scales that he can put on the knife to finish it. Should keep him happy for a day or two and he'll end up with a pretty nice pocket knife and knowledge of how they go together. All of the above is available from Koval Knives and they ship promptly. Good luck!:)

Hi, I like Peter's idea. You might also want to get him the Tools and Equipment catalog from Rio Grande .
It has a great variety of things in it. I'm sure he would find something in it he would want and its' just a pleasure for tool guys to browse.
Happy Holidays, Greg

I like Peter's ideal about the 605 liner lock kit. It would make a great Christmas gift. If you want to get him somthing to help him start making folder's I would suggest a micro lathe like a Sherline or a Unimat4. The little lathe is great for making small parts for folders.

The book "The anatomy of the liner lock" by Bob Terzuola is an excellent book if he doesnt already have a copy. It will get him into folder making.

How about Bob Terzoula's book AND the Darell Ralph 605 folder kit? All availible from Kovals' (that's wher I got mine). If that doesn't get him started making folders, nothing will :D

Merry Christmas,
Patrick

This is great,a wife asking about shop equipment as a gift...My hat is off to you Anita...Your Husband is a lucky man..
Here is a suggestion that will keep him healthyier longer also..If he doesn't already have one a dust collection system for his shop would be a wonderful idea. They are not real expensive either..
You could always give him a gift cetificate from one of the knife making supply houses and let him order stuff all year that way..
Handle material, sheets of different thickness nickel silver, drill bits things like this make for great stocking stuffers,Does he have a torch set,if not that would be a great suprise for him...
Something that would be different would be to send him to the blade school for a class that he is interested in,or a weekend at a big name makers shop for some teaching,I know allot of them give weekend classes and he would really enjoy this one more than you would know..
Just some ideas...My wife does things like this for me so I know that they are great presents..
