What better way to get what you want for Christmas than making it Yourself !!!!!
I made a piece of Damascus out of all the different pieces of scrap in the shop, like broken blades broken files, end cut offs of cable and cut off piees of 5160.I welded everything up and folded it a few times and then twisted it and then made six pieces of it by foldin it in different directions then stretched and thinned it down to make this blade.I think it looks like a piece of wood.
This is my Christmas present to myself,Let me know if you like it,Bruce

You are my hero. Your knife is beautiful. What's that handle?

I've been a good boy too, can I have one?

Thanks guy's,I kind of like it myself.

The handle is made from one of those Dog Chew bones from Wal-Mart ( cow shine bone) and I splashed a little Cordovan color Fiebings leather dye on...
Since you were good I don't know, see I was really Bad

Thats why I had to make it myself...HA-HA-HA......lets see next year I believe I can fit one in Dave........I'm out of the shop for atleast a day I hope that's all,Can't stand it if I'm out of it for very long. This sickness of making knives sure can kill your social life....

Very nice knife..Love the blade.
How does it cut. What do you think it's hardness is?

Tom,I havent had the guts to start really cutting anything yet so i dont know how well it cuts,I do know that I got it really scary sharp though, almost to sharp for me to have I might cut myself.
As for the hardness I'm not sure.I do know that I didn't put any mild steel in the mix so it was all high carbon and when I heat treated it it was pretty hard, and pretty hard to hand rub out.so I'm guessing it to be in the 58-60 rc. range.Though without it being put on a rc. tester I don't know for sure....

Too sharp!? LOL...not possable.
Remember how you made the blade. That really flows well for a "random" pattern.
58-60 would be just right don't you think?
Or would you want it harder?

I know never to sharp!!!!
Yes that RC. would be optimum range for my knife ,Thats about where I keep all my blades.

Bruce, that is a very nice blade. I have looked for the large dog bones at the Wal-Mart here in Tahlequah and haven't been able to find them. I have a friend that has a pet store and have been wanting to see if she could order me some. What did you have to pay for the dog bone?
Looks like you are catching the triple D's, (Dreaded Damascus Disease)

. I don't know if there is a known permanent cure for it or not but the temporary cure I use is to make one.
Merry Christmas to All and God Bless You.

thats some amazing stuff.....really like the shape.....you need to make some more and sell it to us hammer challenged folks!

Ray,I didn't see any at walmart the other day myself.I did find some at Freds..You should be able to find some at one of the local chain stores. The Bones only cost me a little less than $3.00 each,But then you have to cut and flatten them yourself. If you can't find any let me know and I will send you the company name and the name of the product so you can see if your friend can order them for you...We might try one of the online pet stores or pet supply outlets on line....
Tom,When I get a chance I will see what I can do for you a piece of Damascus as close to this as I can,I can't promise when But I will try as soon as I can..What size piece do you need ?

Only God can make something out of nothing...

However....

You've done a fine job of making something out of practically nothing.

Good looking piece of work...
