Hey, ladies and lads,

Got a question for you.

I need to get my cousin a good bushcraft knife. Here are the criteria:
1) around $50
2) I need to be able to order it online and have it shipped to him at a different address than my own mailing address.

He lives in Oregon, so any special considerations from those of you who live up that direction would be nice.

I am thinking something with a 4-6 inch bade. And if possible, I would prefer carbon or tool steel to stainless.

Post links if you can.

Thanks, folks.

Some brands of Scandanavian knives have models in that price range that I believe would be suitable for bushcraft. Good birch handles and leather sheaths--a step up from the common Moras.

Go to Ragweedforge to see some.

I got a Wood Jewel there for that price and it's a lot of knife for the money. They are currently out of stock, but Ragnar has other brands to look at.

Spyderco Resilience is my favorite folder under 50 bucks, talk about quality and bang for the buck!

Look at the Mora knives at Bens backwoods. Great bushcrafting knives and great prices too.

I bought a couple of the Condor knives with the wooden handles, the Bushcraft and Bushlore. Very thick, durable blades. However, the level of finish is a bit crude so maybe not the best choice for a gift. On the plus side though, fifty bucks would buy a couple of these that could be gifted as a set.

For something a bit nicer and priced right at $50, check out the Metsa by Ahti knives, available at Ragweed Forge. Not as fancy as the more expensive Karesuando and Helle knives, but a big step up from the Condor and Mora selections.

I'm anxious to pick up a Lapin Puukko for myself, but haven't yet. I see a nice selection of these at Ragweed Forge, including some for under $50.
