I have sent my wife a link for a Queen Copperhead with amber bone stag grips. Now I'm rethinking it and the large stockman may be the ticket.

Both are beautiful knives, but I do not have a stockman. I like the Great Eastern cigars, but they are getting up there in price and are a little large for office pocket carry. It may be too fancy for heavy use...

With Queen the large stockman is pushing size, but the small stockman's blades designs look more like a whittler blades to me. The large has what I consider to be the classic looking sheepsfoot and big clip that define stockman to me.

Queen Large Stockman: amber bone, D2 $68
Queen Copperhead: amber bone, D2 $50
Great Eastern Cigar: cat's craddle, 1095 $90

I do not have a D2 knife.

Other stockman?

Thanks for your input.

I don't think the GEC is too fancy for heavy use. Yes, it's nice and looks good, but they're built plenty tough. There aren't many built tougher, and the carbon steel can take whatever you dish out. I like mine a lot.

For a nice, heavy duty stockman that won't break the bank, the Buck 301 is worth considering. That's what my grandfather always used, and it served him well. New Graham has them for $30. They're great knives, if you don't mind delrin scales. The only thing I don't like about them is the springs are a bit soft for my taste. Otherwise- awesome. They have stainless blades, but they're good stainless- with excellent heat treatment.

The Case large stockman with amber bone and CV blades is another one I like. Shepherd Hills has them for $46.

Prices are not more than:
Queen Large Stockman: amber bone, D2 $62
Queen Copperhead: amber bone, D2 $47
Queen Small Stockman Amber bone D2 $54

They are all very nice with polished blades.

The Copperhead is very slim, almost elegant single bladed knife. You can also get with a locking liner. The blade is quite thick at the tang, but thins out.
The Large Stockman 4" is a working size.
The Small Stockman 3 1/4" is a great office knife, plenty big enough. Not for very heavy work! The blades are quite thin and therefore cuts very well. Disappears into my pocket.
The blade design on the both stockmans are the same.

While opinions vary, I think this one is a real classic. I'm biased, though, as it was my first real EDC knife back around 1990. Used to constantly have it in my hand, rubbing it like a "worry stone". It knew how to cut, too. :)

Those are all great choices. I prefer the feel of a large stockman.
Don't let the size fool ya though, You might be pleasantly surprised at what you can do even with a small stockman...

I have many many knives but I really love my Case CV bone stag large stockman. It tags along with me just about all of the time now.

I also have a Case 6.5 Stag Bone Stockman in CV. I say if you don't have a Stockman yet get one. Love Case CV. Sheeps foot for work/play, clip for food prep. and spey for a "just in case, fresh razor edge". I also have a Queen Copperhead Amber Bone in D2. Great knife as well! It took me a while to get the D2 edge how I wanted it but, Man once I did....Anyway if I could only grab one while the house was burning down it would be my CV Stockman. My CV takes and holds a razor edge with 1/4 the effort I have to put into D2. Anyway, good luck and enjoy. M
