I know I am a lonely Brit on here. But I want to spare a thought for the soldiers and military for both our countries that are not coming home.

But whilst we are eating Christmas dinner and having time with our families then lets not forget those who are in foreign countries fighting for peace and freedom.

Maverick

Plz this aint going to be a political thread.. no arguing the rights and wrongs of it just think of the soldiers and their families.

Say a pray´r for the common foot soldier,
Spare a thought for his back breaking work.
Say a pray´r for his wife and his children
Who burn the fires and who still till the earth.

Nice Thought Maverick. My Brother Spent Last Christmas In Iraq. Just Found Out He'll Be On Leave And Home For This One Before He Goes Back.

know that i pray for the young people to come home and i pray for peace. i have worked were many of you have not been and some of thoes you speek of will end up and some are now... i have my own thoughts of them this christmass..i will share my feelings of them with you. tho untitled, this is fully mine and copyrighted.
Were there is now food on my blouse,
Was once the blood of my best friend…
Were now I have need of your attention,
I once commanded legions to rest from theirs…
Were now you lead me to my room,
I once lead the brave to horror and death…

I am of once many and now one of few.

I am the old warrior...
And though but a shadow of what I once was
I have not yet faded away…

not that i mean to take any from the ones there now, we miss them...
let us not forget the ones in the hospitals and nurseing homes,
the ones that have been there, done that...

I work for a VA nursing home, we have 300 residents, our oldest guy is 104. Probably 50-60% of our residents never have visitors:(

Standing watch at some lonely outpost or in some damp foxhole in some God forasaken country, or having the mid-watch in the middle of the ocean can be very lonely when the holidays come around. The sacrifices all our service men and women make are tremendous and deserve our respect and deep gratitude. Thank for the reminder Maverick.

Well put Mike.

fudo, thank you for what you do and Merry Christmas to you and your residents. Preston

fudo, i was working in the va nurseing home and talked some with the guys..
many the only time some one came around was at the end to be remembered in the will.
i stood in the hall way there one day and through tears i wrote that in jest a few moments...
i tryed to give it to the VA to use and they said they did not want it...
i even went to the director to try and still no...
in telling that to some if the guys there some of them cryed also...
it took 2ed place in a veterans national contest for dramitic reading by the wrighter... yet no one wanted it ...

i wrote a moto there and had it on my badge that " i am a vet and i am the va, can i help you? " and no one wanted that either because not every one at the va is a vet so it was not fair to them... so i will share here.
