Here is a good description of a "rare find" on Ebay, A Schrade with a "sand blasted finish":

====================================================
Only July 30, 2004, Schrade Cutlery Corporation in Ellenville, New York closed its doors for good on USA produced knives. The company started making knives in 1904 in Walden, NY. When the doors were closed the remaining factory inventory was sold. We were able to acquire a large quantity of this miscellaneous USA made product. Many of these knives are Prototypes, Factory Samples, Customer Samples, Experimental Knives, etc. Odd blade variations are sometimes used as well as etches and handles. Many of these knives date from the 1970s to current years. We will provide a box for safe storage as these did not come with boxes from the factory. We will also include a Schrade Factory Certificate of Authenticity telling the history of Schrade Cutlery Corporation.

This knife for auction is a original USA manufactured 885UH Stockman Knife, 4" closed.

This Schrade Uncle Henry Stockman knife has great looking Staglon handles. The bolsters are Genuine nickel silver and are scuffed some. Blades have some light rust as well but are a rare sand blasted finish on all 3 blades. The pins and liners are Genuine brass and the shield is Uncle Henry Bomb shield. The master Clip Point blade is tang stamped Schrade + USA 885UH.

I'll leave it up to you to guess who is selling this one.

I am so tired of these dealers pedaling their junk saying how Schrade "Closed its' doors for good". That right there is a tip off. Now I am seeing so many mismatched boxes and papers especially with the LB8. Also another big no,no is the key word "fileworked" this means someone destroyed a nice knife or the knife had a flaw and this was done to make it fancy and rare. When will it end. Will we need to go to "slabbing" knives like the coin collecting industry has. Because of this it ruins collecting for me. A knife that was given to me in 1985 is now considered antique?

We are seeing some real corkers alright. I'm feeling a little "sandblasted" myself today; just finished punching a 3 inch hole through a brick wall that turned out to be three bricks thick. Trying to get ready to replace 55 year old boiler system. It is supposed to reach 11° below zero here Wednesday morning; I sure can pick my schedules.:grumpy::D:eek:

I guess I've seen that same dealer on eBay. He stated that he had added the "filework" to enhance the knife, and also listed it as MINT!
Now I ask; When he did the file work on the spring, didn't he have to disassemble the knife to do so? Also, How do we know his "re-assembly" work will hold up?
PS, Hw on Earth can you modify a factory knife, then still call it mint?

Hiya Thawk.

After the auction ends, would you post a link? I'd love to learn who/what, but an eBay search didn't turn it up. Thanks.

atleast the bid isn't all that high right now.

really? I found it. Must be your ebay-fu isn't strong...

Gosh! That must be one that never made it into Irv Trachman's 150,000 pound knife roll! Too bad it doesn't have Sandbar stag. (It is still one nice Scharde.)

Is the auction ended yet?.....I'm not the fizziest drink in the fridge.....can you give a hint who we're talking about......discussing dishonest/misrepresenting sellers and Ebay in the same sentence does not narrow it down much for me....if auction over its fair game isnt it?..unless they have heaps similarly listed..Hoo Roo

just wondering has anyone ever questioned these things? i have and got back the expected nasty note. if we ask a question in ebay it becomes public record and might help some poor soul from not getting taken by the lot of "them".

G'day Delmas, a question only becomes public record if the seller chooses to tick the box to make it so...most sellers guilty of misrepresentation never put the question on their listing when they know they've been exposed....
Would be great if Ebay made it mandatory for a seller to respond and show it on the list of questions at the bottom of the listing..but it will never happen...Ebay is about money, money and there's of course money.....and rarely about promoting/enforcing truth and honesty in listings and certain sellers know it and exploit it...buyer beware!....IMO....Hoo Roo

okay i have tried in the past to do that but what can one do. saw today someone is selling a "LB6". apparently they originally had it listed as an LB8 but someone questioned them on the handle not being staglon and suggested it might be a LB6. hmmmmm in all my searches have never seen a listing for a LB6 in Schrade literature. at least the seller was honest enough to put and correct the first mistake.

"This knife for auction is a original USA manufactured 885UH Stockman Knife, 4" closed."

Well I guess that would be true for a knife assembled from leftover factory parts in a garage apt in Tenn during 2009
just as easily as in Ellenville NY prior to 2004.

Like Mr. Ranger told Booboo & Yogi a thousand & a half times:
"Bears Beware"
Which is hard to do looking at a picture this big. [ ]

Well one thing about them cellulite handles, they now have some
miracle cream you can smear on there s'pose to reverse early signs
of gassing off.
