I just received my first Chuddy Bear sheath. Dark brown for the RatManDu that I'm waiting for anxiously (thanks mhawg). This is one fine piece of leather work. Truly a work of art. The leather is beautiful and the design is sweet. Thick, thick, thick. It'll last a lifetime I'm sure.

That said, what is the best way to care for a leather sheath? I'm sure there are a bunch of leather conditioners out there, but what do you guys prefer?

And one more thing. The sheath has no maker's mark on it. I think it's time Chuddy invest in a stamp to brand these badboys. He deserves credit for the hard work. Thanks Chuddy.

I have been using this stuff from Tandy. You can also get it from other places also.

This is what I put on the outside of all of my sheaths when they leave me. It is foolproof to apply as you just put it on with a damp soft cloth, let it dry a few minutes and buff off with a soft cloth. If you put a few coats on it will get more glossy. It is a waxed based protectant

Fiebing's Leather Balm 4 oz Neutral

I am happy to hear you like the sheath. :D

Chuddy does EXCELLENT work. Great choice, Mike. I had a Chuddy made for a, since sold, Dumpster Mutt. The RMD and DM share the same blade profile. The only real difference is the blade thickness.

The handle retainer on the sheath is a wide piece of leather that wraps completely around the grip. A little wet forming and it fits the RMD perfectly! Beautiful work, Chuddy! We're glad you're around!

Forget everything else. I think you can get it at Walmart too.

Lexol deals with one of the biggest issues with leather - pH. Most leather stuff is the wrong pH and over time destroys the leather it is meant to protect. Lexol makes a cleaner and a conditioner. Great 1-2 punch for old and new leather.

I have to agree with Dennis. Lexol is really hard to beat as a leather protectant. I've used it on everything from knife sheaths to baseball gloves to my car's seats to my couch at home.

You would be amazed what this stuff will do to bring old, nasty, dry looking leather back to almost new condition.

I've read tests done on leather (motorcycle jackets and boots, done by MCN) that claimed Lexol was the best for long leather life. Got all involved with the pores, PH, and I-don't-know-what, but the bottom line was that the leather lasted longer if you didn't use anything besides Lexol on it. YMMV
