Today i went to one of our local Church sales to look for shiny stuff that i really dont need..I swooped like an avenging angel on the boxes of tools and found this lot amongst piles of junk..I took my pile of rusty and blunt objects to the elderly man at the counter and asked how much?...Is $20 a fair price? he said..I gave him $30 and left....The cream is the hatchet, original handle and sheath (Boy Scout)...Needs a bit of a dress up but shes a sweetie...nice carbon scimitar too,ive already got a few but you know how it go,s.....A good morning.....FES

How you even managed to set foot on Sacred ground is an achievement all on its own my friend!
What a box full of goodies!! The knife looks a good one Cossack - whats the maker? also - have you had a look at that Machete? - is it a Collins?

Great score Mate

I think the machete is a Martindale from Birmingham, England - the Crocodile brand is shipped all over the world to developing countries. If what you show is from your church, I will have to join your denomination.:D

Good to see you, FES! Glad to see your still coveting the shinny stuff. I bet the boy is a fine strong lad by now! Taller than his dad? Some fine holy treasure, my good man!

Great find there sir - some fine antiques. I would just clean the loose dirt off of those and after they are good and dry, maybe a gentle 0000 steel wool rub on the wood and metal. After that, try a coat of dark brown Bri-wax on the wood handles and the old metal - that would give an excellent finish and they would be quite beautiful and be preserved as antiques too! I have done this many times on antiques and it is my favorite finish. You can find the Bri-wax at Ace hardware or sometimes at antique stores.

Very knice score few, I love looking through the tables at the flea-market, my wife says I have knifedar, I can spot a pocket knife from the opposite side of the row 4 tables down underneath a quilt.

Being in NEPA I'm in the center of the cutlery industry for the continental US for the last century and a half, Case, Queen, Camillus, Schrade and a host of other cutlery companies all within a state from me. There's always treasures to be found in boxes, coffee cans and cigar boxes, some of my best finds were for under $5 at a yard sale or flea-market table.

I love the butcher knife, how about another pic after they've had some TCL. ;)

That's great. Can't wait to see them all dressed up!

If I could score all that for 30$, I might be feeling a tad giddy with guilt myself :D Well done Fes! I am liking that wooden mallet, and sheers, and the machete looks hardly used. Please show some pics if you ever get them hatchets re-hafted, great fun fitting a new handle to an old head :) Nice seeing you pop in

"God loveth a cheerful giver." Especially one who donates $10 over the asking price. Smiles all around. A good haul. Congrats!

From church you say? This sunday I'm gonna pay more attention to what's hiding behind the rosaries and stacks of bibles ;)
Great score.

I know it's not a blade, but I really like that maul. You must have "axed" the right questions, to get such a deal!

Great to see you back Fes, and what a great score. Well done pal, I wish we had church sales like that here still

Karma and knives, what a combo.

Funny stuff. In the fog as well Ted?

Those sheep shears make nice buckskinner/rustic knives if you wanna do that. The steel is usually quite good.

Those knives look pretty special Dave

What a great score! The boy scout hatchet especially, with the leather sheath and all. Awesome!
