Chute knife with Buckeye Burl

Just finished this Chute knife for a client and getting ready to start one in ironwood burl for him.
Specs:
.211 CPM154 SS
OAL 9 3/8"
Blade 4 5/8"
Scales: Stabilized Buckeye burl
Guard 416 SS
1/4" 416 SS pins
1/4" 303 SS thong tube

Leather sheath double hand sewn

Very nice. Being a beginner could you point me in the right direction on tapering the tang like that. I am making my first knife and have tapered mine as best I can but its no where near as nice as yours. Is there a trick or just done by eye or what.
 
A good how to taper a tang article can be found in "Blades Guide To Making Knives" by Joe Kertzman. R.J. Martin did the article and it has good photos to help make things clear. I use basically the same method as R.J. describes. An important step is to have reference lines to refer to and be sure to remove as much material as possible with a 10" wheel before going to the flat platen. There probably is a tutorial on line that shows how to taper a tang as well. Search and I bet something comes up.

JBS, I really appreciate your comments, especially since you picked up on details that I feel are important in a handmade knife, Proportion, symmetry and clean guard work.
