I read the thread. Thanks for posting the link phill. There was a lot of info but know one really identified what it is you envision when you say chute knife. Specs. Is it one of those things that vary or can a few criteria be said to belong to all of them. Is that wonderful pic of the johnson, drool, drool, a classic version so that if you say chute knife that is the image that comes to mind. Of the knives I have seen refered to as chute knives it looks as if they are shortish survival knives for after you have lept from a plane. so is it safe to call any short, 4-5 inch survival style knife with a double guard a chute knife?

From my readings of Knives Annuals....

A chute knife is usually distinguished by a wider than normal blade and handle, flat swedge often sharpened, double guard, 4-5 inch handle.
