When I go fishing I usually smoke a nice cigar. I like Arturo Fuentes Hemmingway Signatures. Mind you I'm not a smoker but I enjoy a good tobacco every now and again when outdoors. But when camping with the family and friends the cigar smell can be a little strong for the woman. So I was thinking about getting into the tobacco and pipe thing as the pipe tobacco can have a softer, sweeter scent. I go to the pipe shop where I get my cigars and to my surprise the pipes are a lot of money...$100 or so for the one's I like, and those are some of the cheaper ones! I was curious if...

you campers/outdoorsman out there smoke a pipe or cigar when you camp? Also can you suggest any good relatively cheaper pipe brands that are decent. Heck any suggestions on tobacco too is welcome. And lastly what about a corn cob pipe? Or is that too corny!

There is nothing wrong with a corn cob pipe. I used to enjoy smoking one and the best thing is if you lose or break it who cares!

IMO for cigars, humidification, on the go, without a herf, is a royal bitch.

I'd go with the pipe for an extended trip.

Thanks for the link G. Scott H. They have prices that are right up my alley! Thanks for the imput about the corn cob pipes. I figured the same if it breaks or something than no worries. Plus the cigar store I go to has at least 3 dozen different blends. Some of them smell really good. I hear that packing in the tobacco is kind of an art in that if it is too tight it will burn fast and if not done right it will have a hard time staying lit. Any secrets too this?

Pack it with a gradual increase in pressure. The bottom of the bowl should be packed but very loosely, the middle a little more tightly and the top should be fairly firm (but don't jump on it). As you smoke you are constantly lightly tamping the top to keep the burning coals onto the tobacco beneath. It takes practice.
