I let my sweetie pie talk me into going to see Corteo, the Cirque do Soleil show that is in San Jose now. I wasn't too keen on going, but you have to make a sacrifice every now and then. Anyway, it was a fantastic show! We bought the high priced tickets where we got reserved parking and a semi private lounge, with all the wine you can drink (and I can drink a lot!!) and all the hors d'oeuvres you can stuff in your face. Great seats, and more wine and deserts at the intermission. But the show was truly amazing. I have seen a couple of the shows on TV, but actually being there is totally different. I oohed and ahhed like a kid. Hey, it may not have been a custom knife show, but it was sure entertaining!

I would love to see them sometime. Whenever there on tv i try and watch it and its just amazing what these people can do.

Did you get to meet any of the performers at the end?

Note to self: Be sure to tank up on lots of wine before subjecting myself to Cirque du Soleil.

When the CdS show "Alegria" came to Dallas, we received an email notifying us, as my wife had put us on their mailing list following our viewing of Quidam. In that email, they mentioned that this show would be a homecoming of sorts, as two or three of the cast and crew called Texas home. We looked, and sure enough, one of my buds from College was listed.

We knew he had been working with CdS, but I thought he was just with props and such. So, fast forward to the night of the show. We go, and before the show, I asked one of the ushers if he was working that night. A little while later, they came back and said that he would meet us after the show. We watched and were awed.

After the show, my friend came out and met us. We reminisced for a little while, and then he asked if we wanted to come with him while he finished up work for the evening. We said okay, and popped backstage. As we wandered around, everyone was very friendly, but seemed to stop whatever bustle they were in, to say, "Hi!" We thought it was odd, until we found out...my friend was the Assistant Technical Director!! D'OH! All in all, though, it was amazing what CdS goes through for its people. It's like a travelling city, all to itself.

He'd been out touring with them for about four years, all over the world. He'd most recently come from touring the Pacific Rim for two years. In some dim corner of my mind, I considered begging him for a job, but then I remembered..."Oh, yeah...I have a family and a job, already." Oh, well...too late to run away and join the Cirque, I guess!!!

:D

My stepdaughter organises many of the Cirque premiere after-show parties. She gave me tickets to the premiere of 'Dralion' and party at the Royal Albert Hall in London. I didn't quite know what to expect from a 'circus' but thought it was fantastic. She helped at the Las Vegas launch and the next one for her is Milan. She just got back from a reccy on Friday. If you get the chance to see them perform I can highly recommend the shows. We tried to blag tickets for Corteo at Toronto, but it was sold out :(

Went to Varekai in Columbus last September. Was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Didn't even fortify myself with wine. I got kissed by one of the cast too. I'd go again
