Citizen's Seamaster - Omega Bond Style??

I've only owned 2 watches for the last 27 years (not counting a few work-watches, which for now is a Luminox I picked up used). First, a swiss auto mid-sized diver's watch, forgot the name, wish I remembered it though. Then a Seiko mid-sized sport watch.

Down-deep, I'd love to buy an Omega Seamaster, Bond Style, watch. But too expensive. Saw a couple of Citizen's Seamaster watches on ebay. Anybody know if these are good quality for Citizen's or a fake or something. I don't see them listed on any catalogs or websites?

I'm looking for a nice looking mid-sized diver's style watch for Christmas.

Thanks,

Brad

Get a seamaster mate - you won't regret it. You know you are going to buy one eventually. Once a gadget bug takes hold it doesn't let go.

Get a Seamaster Pro, I have had mine for 7 years now and have been very pleased with it.

I did a part x with the shop on a quartz seamaster that I had had for 5 years and got £150 more than I had paid for it :D

The SMP can be found for about $1400. It looks like this in the dark:

Not that a SMP is not worth $1400.00 to many people, but I got my 2002 model, automatic Seamaster Pro Chronometer (not chronograph with the extra dials) for just under $1000.00. My watch is grey market, but the warranty is only one year anyway, and Omega will fix/refinish any recent vintage SMP for around $375.00 so I figure if I make it through the warranty period, with no breakage I'm ahead. I did pay cash (green money) at the Los Angeles Jewelry mart and had to leave the store four times and come back to get my price, but I got the watch I wanted and the price I wanted.

Costco occasionally has SMPs for just under a grand as well. Because they are not an authorized Omega dealer, their watches have no factory warranty either, but it is an easy purchase (no negotiating required). You just have to like whatever style they have at the time.

I wanted a particular version which has the new Laser blue face that is a brighter blue than their traditional dark blue. I also didn't want the painted bezel with the light numbers,I wanted the polished rotating bezel with the black numbers and the steel bracelet. That's what I got. You don't buy a watch like this for how it keeps time, my cell phone is synched to an atomic clock over the wireless network and is remarkable accurate. You buy a watch like this for how it feels on your wrist.

PS He's right about the glow in the dark. It might not be a Luminox in that respect, but I still marvel everytime I walk into a dark room.

Hey Lynn - Call that a watch??? where are all the scratches :D

I take it the picture is not actually your SMP?

i have an older seamaster that belonged to my dad, prob '70's vintage i would think, still works great, never been serviced to my knowledge........

and i too have seen them for sale less than a thousand, they will usually work w/ya on the price of an omega, unlike rolex, at least thats been my experience.

Harvey, I wear my SMP almost every day. I'm fairly tough on watches. The bracelet is scratched up pretty good, especially the clasp. The 'head' looks almost new.

Hi Lynn

Here is a picture (I hope this works as I have not done it before) of my face :D

Harvey, that is one well loved SMP! I like seeing gadgets/tools that have actually been USED. I only have one small chipped spot on the rotating bezel, between the '45' mark and the 50. The clasp, however, is scrathed up pretty bad.

Lynn

The clasp on mine is even MORE scratched that the bezel ;)

It is however a new glass as when walking down the road last year it just dropped off my wrist and fell face down on the pavement.

When I picked it up the crystal had a crack almost right across (it must have hit something really hard in the pavement) so it had to have a new glass and a service (Omega would not do the repair without servicing it which was a downer as it had been dome less that 12 moths before)

One of the pins in the replacemable links had come right out. It nearly happened again about a month ago but I spotted the pin half out and got the jewlers to check all the pins.

Thanks for the responses. I decided to buy the Citizens, via ebay, for now. Meanwhile, I tried on the mid-sized and full-sized at a nearby store. Wow, what a watch. So now, I'll wait and watch for a good deal on a used full-sized Omega Seamaster Professional.

Brad,

While Omegas are indeed awesome (and I think a much better value than Rolex), I expect you'll be really happy with your Citizen.

I think they are one of the best values in quality watches out there. Their fit and finish is much better than any other sub $1K watch I've seen.

Lynn: Good lord man! That looks like you got a production watch off of a stunt man on a Bond film! And the stunt man didn't make it! That's one tough watch.

Cheers,
Joe
