I was looking at an old Boy Scout knife the other day and decided I wanted to make a fixed blade spear point that was nice enough to go out in polite company.

I have not finished the satin finish on the blade yet. I've taken it to mirror and now need to work back. Everything else is done.

The Blade is 1075 with an M2 edge. It's about 3.5"

Loa is about 7"

Butt and Nose are poured Pewter

The grip is Walnut.

Please answer the poll about this.
Thanks

I like it Don, although I'd like to see the plunge go a little higher. But that's just my bias speaking, and it's always the same loudmouthed, in-your-face bias that makes me so popular.

That looks like a perfect EDC to me. Since I gave my last one away I may just have to emulate yours. ;)

I can't take a good picture to save my life Dave. The plunge really goes to within 1/4" of the spine on the flat grind. The thing you see is the convex grind that does not go as deep. I polished it to a close mirror prior to taking back to satin. IT is reflecting everything around.

Actually after I flapped my trap I wondered whether that might be true. That's a perfect-sized knife and I really like the blade profile. "Scout knife" indeed! It's exactly like the Cub Scout knife blade in my desk drawer (though that one is still as dull as the last time I dug in "quicksand" with it 40-some years ago).

Schlitz! I just looked in my desk suffering from an attack of nostalgia and my freakin Cub Scout knife is gone! Some things are just not sacred to a grandchild digging through everything. At least I know she wouldn't have cut herself on it. :D Now we gotta try to find it...

Or make myself one like yours!

Thanks everyone. I've made my mind up and this is going to be my first sale. I'm going to ask $77.00 for it. There's a reason for the amount.
Now...all I have to do is find a buyer :D

:) cool that should do the job..

I just get An Error Has Occurred! message on the pole Don.
that pour looks like it came out nice, how did it work up for you?

Very nice!! I like the shape and size -- make sure that thing gets in the hands of a boyscout.

Thanks again everyone. Dan, the pour did come out well, the second time. I wasn't happy with he first pour so I cut it off and redid it.

I tend to overbuild things and I was concerned with the butt cap. I ran a wood screw the entire length of the tang and cut it off so it was just 1/16" short of the top of the pour. I then drilled a hole on either side of the tang and used a Dremil to connect the tunnel between the two. This way the pewter formed a stirrup under the wood as well as gripping on the screw shank.
