Civilian , G-10 or Aluminum Scales?

I've got two Civilians, one with g-10 scales, and an older one with Aluminum scales and Kraton (rubber?) inserts.

Which one would you prefer to carry daily, and why?

They are both still untouched and I'm trying to decide which one to slip in my pocket as a carry knife. I think I've still got one pocket empty...maybe ... well, my Native could share a pocket with another one. Maybe I just need more pockets!

Take the clips off and get thin kydex sheaths for each forearm! (grin)

i'd carry the G-10 model and keep the aluminum model mint condition. they are out of production and a mint might be worth a little more to some people. you can always get another G-10, but not the aluminum. plus i like the feel of G-10 as compared to aluminum. but you could always start carrying the Al. model and sell me the G-10 for $30

what do you say?

Leroy, I could do that.... but the shipping is gonna cost you big time!

Seriously, I didn't realize the aluminum ones were being sought after, I thought everyone had just gravitated to the G-10.

i'm not sure that the Al. ones are being sought after right now, but give it a year or two and a mint model will get you plenty more than a used. i think i'll pass on your generous sale offer, i hate high shipping costs

For daily carry I would go with the G-10 sans clip. G-10 holds up better particularly for pocket carry. Anodized coating on the aluminum wears and shows it. G-10 is grippier too.

I love the aluminum model (Spyderco will supply you with a free steel replacement clip if the kraton one isn't to your fancy) but considering they don't make them anymore, I'd carry the G-10. The above comments are right, the G-10s are easy to get, the aluminums are NOT!

There are only two types of people; those who understand this, and those who think they do.

Thanks for the info guys, it looks like the G-10 will be carried. I liked the grip on it better too.

I love the aluminium model, mainly because that is what I'm used too. The Kraton inserts have started to lift off the adhesive... has anyone else found this?
Ideally, I would obtain a G10 for carry; keeping the original, well just to keep!

Actually Mark, the original Civilian is a very common knife and readily available everywhere. Perhaps this may induce you to let yours go. Perhaps I might know someone who would take it off your hands cheaply.Perhaps I know someone who would chew off their own arm to get one!! You lucky lucky...
