1)

did anyone notice, the civialian model spyderco in the punisher?
it is in the forst 35 minutes, while the killing of his family is happening.

also.
i bought my first spyderco, the titanium folding bob lum.
it has never been used by the seller i bought it from, but the "inch"
at the top where it flares out on all tantos is dull, while the staight main edge is sharper (not sharp enough anyway)

2)

is this normal for spydie tantos to come partially unsharpened?
and what do you recommend for an affordable all around sharpening tool for
all spydies? i hear diamond is better than ceramic and i heard about
steeling and leathering. ( i know not how to sharpen really)

also, can you send it to syderco for a fee, and will they professionally sharpen it?

this knife is for self defense and emergencies, i will never beat on it.
one proffesional sharpening job will last forever, but for my additional
knives i plan to use often, i would like to have sharpening knowledge.

84 looks and no reply?

my main question is:

is the top inch section of the tanto and point
meant to be sharpened?

I think it was a Civilian, but I'm not 100% sure. Later on, the Punisher uses an Emerson kerambit to take out a guy.

I'm not sure, but I think the tip is ground thicker to stand up to more abuse. As a result, it will be hard to get is as sharp as the rest of the blade.

I have no clue. I'm not a tanto fan myself.

A Spyderco Sharpmaker...what else?

Yes. I think they charge $5.00. You could buy a Sharpmaker for $40.00 and never have to send a knife off to be sharpened again.

Hey. I'm not sure, but I believe that the secondary edge is not supposed as sharp. It is designed to be a strong tip for thrusting and therefore does not have as fine of an edge as the rest of the knife. The "duller" esge means that is less likely to chip in the event of a thrust into a hard object. -Lev

i had a ti lum PE and the tip was sharp, wasnt like a buck/strider 880 tanto at all,

I have the fixed blade Lum.It has an appleseed grind on the tip,or convex if you will.Mine would shave hair, but I had trouble sharpening it.Spyderco will do it for a fin,but mine came back with a normal double sided grind. That was ok by me!

Yep, Lonehunter nailed it. An appleseed grind.
Dull, dull, dull.
It's there to give piercing strength.

Let us know if you sharpen it up and how you go about it :)
I have the fixed blade Lum as well as the folder Ti and they're both that way. Just how they're designed.

that's what happened to mine as well. I think that the appleseed grind is difficult to achieve at a prodo level. YOu can either do it yourself (sandpaper method) or get someone who has a belt sander to help you. I got RJ Martin to help me with mine and it came back with a super sharp appleseed grind!!! :D

thank you.

puncture strength.

that makes sense and makes me feel better.

awsome knife.

howdy!
I saw The punisher while at the NRA convention. Right away, the wife and I picked up on the civilian being used. We mentioned the sighting to Joyce Laituri, when we saw her at the spydie booth, on the following morning.
That is also when I bought my two Lum fixed blades. Those are really nice knives!

You can get them sharp. I am currently working on mine. Yes for strength but you can get it poppin sharp. Use a mouse pad and sandpaper. Light touch only. The light touch along with the mousepad will give you anice convex edge. Mine was quite dull(I got it in a trade) but I have it where it will bite into things. Will try to get it sharp but it is definetly possible. Take Care and hope it works for you:)

Oh I used 400, then 600 wet/dry paper. Might go higher to see how that helps.
