Interested in the hawkbill knives can somebody please educate me? Specifically what's the difference between the Matriarch and the Civilian. Also, which is the better EDC of the four?

The Civilian and the Matriarch are two versions of the same knife, kinda sorta. The Civilian has G-10 scales and the Matriarch has FRN. The blade shape are the same but the Civilian's is slightly bigger.

All of the four have different strengths. The Civilian and Matriarch are last ditch self defense, let-me-go-right-now tools. The merlin and harpy are less so.

The merlin and harpy were designed, IIRC, of use on and near the water. The curved blades reach out and grabs a line (rope) on a boat and makes short work of cutting it. They also work in the garden for pruning roses and the like.

The Harpy (MSRP $100,95) and Merlin (now discontinued) are easier to get and quite smaller.
As EDC the Harpy is excellent, but a straight blade (e.g. Delica) is more useful in most situations and gets less attention in public areas. The Civilian and Matriarch are in fact only useful for self defence.
