Civilian or Military?

As part of both tribes - civilian and military - I have a love for both :). But, after seeing the civilian for the first time, I was totally intrigued by it's "Wow, it looks illegal" personna.
Did the Civilian model have the same effect on you? And for those who own it... how do you like it? Is it useful or more for show?

Thanks...

I have a Military and a Civilian. I think that if you believe that a defensive knife primarily should be a slasher and not a stabber, then the Civilian is the ne plus ultra of defensive knives. I don't see how a knife could be made into a better slasher than this thing.

If you think that stabbing is important, then you won't like the Civilian.

I don't think many people on these forums use their civies. I know it was mentioned before that Spyderco did get a semi-large order for civies at one time, they found out that it was used by people to harvet mushrooms, apparently was great for cutting stems. So there are some user civies, but I don't think there are many, most get shown off more than cut.

Not to mention that at least the new ones come with a little tag warning you that the knife isn't designed as a everyday user (as I assume tip would likely break in "normal" use) and the warranty is different in this regard vs. all other Spydercos.

Same here, I thought it looked 'cool' some years ago before my knifeknut tastes had 'matured.' Looking back, on one hand I'm glad I never sprung for one. I wouldn't have used it for anything, and I don't really collect safe queens.

On the other hand, I wish I had (maybe I still will) because they are cool :D and it'll be nice to have in a couple years as a part of Spyderco history.

Peace.

I just got my civilian on Tuesday. It is a really cool looking knife. It is my first spyderco knife from Japan. I do kinda wish that the hole was the same size as the hole on my Para Military. I really like the civilian though. My Dad bought me the knife, and told me that he thinks everyone should own at least on really mean looking knife. I have started carrying and training with my new knife. I plan to use it if need be as a last ditch defense weapon. Slash and RUN as fast as I can. Other than that I enjoy showing it to people at work and watching their faces as they realize that it just came from my pocket.

Now that I have received some edged weapon training, the Civilian has assumed a very limited role in comparison to when I was virtually untrained. But, my Civies are still VERY IMPORTANT because they can fit into little places that my larger knives cannot, and of course the Civie can still do everything today that it could do 6 or 7 years ago. (I always chuckle a bit when I see someone post that the Civilian is so big.)
