Hi long time lurkers first post! I have learned much here. Great site. My Civilians clip is loose, one screw seems to be stripped. More likely the hole rather then the screw. Can I use thread locker to tighten up the clip or should I just send it back to spyderco? Thanks Kris

Just out of curosity, what's the handle material?

In any case, I'd recommend sending it back. No sense in buggering it up further trying to fix it.

As far as I know, there were never any Zytel Civilians. Over time, they've been Aluminum, G-10, and Carbon Fiber.

The Matriarch is Zytel (the little bro of the Civilian) but that only had one large clip screw (like the Endura).

Depending on how bad it bugs you, I'm sure a gob of loc-tite would keep it in place, otherwise Spyderco should be happy to tune it up for you.

Clearly not FRN with 3 screws in any curved blade configuration...if it's a G-10 w/o liners, I don't know whether loc-tite would even help. Probably a pic would be beneficial here if possible.

OK it's G10. Does not appear to have metal liners or I just am not seeing them. Would the clip screws just thread in to the G10? :barf: Thanks KAS

Yes, this is entirely possible. That's why the G-10 Civie was upgraded to have a steel liner on the clip side (to give the clip screws something better to anchor them).
I have an example of the non-liner G-10 Civilian in my collection. They were made that way initially.

Thanks Hawkbill. I can't believe Spyderco would just thread the G10. Well at least they changed it. I will be sending it back to them. Kas

Yes, Kas, they found out long ago that reinforcing the G-10 with a steel liner prevented just your scenario. It was changed very early in the G-10 Civilian production.
