Is civivis Damascus decent? Looking at getting one as a gift for a friend but Damascus at that price point seems sketch. Anyone have any experience with it?

It's definitely decent steel, but for the price I wouldn't expect high end.

The patterns are attractive but not awe inspiring.

I bought two models a few years ago, one as a gift and one I kept.
The recipient thought it was an expensive knife. Even the packaging looks high end.

The one in the picture I kept for myself, a large Elementum button lock, with shredded carbon fiber scales, it was about $100.

I've found their damascus to be pretty good and achieves a nice edge, this is one that I still own and it is exceptionally sharp and being hollow ground cuts effortlessly

this was one of my favorite ones, a Rustic Gent in damascus

a while back there were questions if it really was pattern welded steel or just a fancy etch to replicate a damascus pattern, I took one of the blades and sanded down the spine and then etched it with ferric chloride to show the layers of steel

Thanks you! Looks like I'm buying a civivi lol.

The Civivi Damascus is made from 9Cr18Mov and 10Cr15CoMov. The former is a solid budget steel with decent edge retention and excellent corrosion resistance, similar to Japanese Acuto 440. The latter is a direct analog of VG-10.

So it's made of reasonable user steels and they seem to get the heat treatment right. For something mostly made and chosen for looks, it's a win for the money.

Here is one of mine:
