Today I received a package from James. Amongst the goodies was a CKB Alpha with Sting Ray wallet. More on the other goodies later. For those of you that have enquired about the Sting Ray wallets, just buy one. The quality and attention to detail is equal to the best leatherwork I have seen. The seamless integration of the excellent blade is amazing. It's scary sharp and fits my hand well for such a thin piece. In these times when all of the sheople seem to be against any defensive weapon, the CKB Alpha is an eloquent alternative. Perhaps it is an essential. Understand that most folks will be so taken by its good looks and the beaded pinch cord, that they will never expect what is inside. I struggled for a year with the cost and the wait involved with this system's purchase. What a waste of energy. If you are ever in a situation where carry of a defensive blade is difficult or desire a very discrete backup, the CKB Alpha/ Sting Ray checkbook combination takes the cake.

Mr. Thompson,

You are a LUCKY man! I also have a couple of CKB-Alphas on order, one for me and one for my wife. I can't wait until I get them! How smooth is the draw from the wallet? How secure is the grip? Can you stab with confidence? I know I already said it...but I can't WAIT till I get mine!!!!!

MrG,

Long ago I learned that LUCK is an acronym for Labor Under Correct Knowledge.

The blade has a tight fit but it does draw smoothly. You will need a hand on the checkbook to get a clean draw. It was warm and muggy here today due to unseasonable thunderstorms. Consequentially, I wore loose BDU shorts. I think it may be possible to do a one handed draw if the checkbook is in a rear jeans pocket. It may require some tightening of the glutes! I say this only because the checkbook is fairly thick and unfortunately my Wranglers have a fairly tight fit! I will report when opportunity allows.

I would be leery to thrust with this blade. While the thumb hole and finger notch index the blade in the hand, as a rule, I don't believe in thrusting with a blade with out a guard. The same goes for folders. I should also note that the blade tends to cant toward 30 degrees off the vertical (edge to the inside) for a right hander. None of this is a bother though. The blade is so thin and so sharp that slashes and back cuts should be devastating.

I am happy to report that a one handed draw is possible. My Wranglers are tight enough that with the checkbook in my back pocket, I can simply tighten my glutes and this creates enough tension to retain the checkbook while I draw the blade. Very slick.

Mr. Thompson,

Have you had any problems with rust at all? I remember reading that there was a problem with rusty fingerprints on the handle part of the knife. Also, when you wear the checkbook, do you leave the finger-pinch cord hanging out? Is the draw relatively silent, or is there a pretty audible click when you pull the knife out? Is it comfortable to carry?

I know, lots of questions. Sorry.

MrG,

No rust yet but a Tuff Cloth should keep that away unless you are continually fondling the blade.

The pinch cord hangs out for all to see. Mine is beaded and I think it furthers the harmless look of the checkbook. The draw is quiet with no click. Comfort? Well it's a fat wallet. The main comfort comes from the blade inside. Bare in mind these comments come from a thin/minimalist wallet guy and I don't leave home with out it. Enough said.
