The Custom Knife Collectors Association holds our Annual Banquet/Meeting each year on Thursday night before the start of Blade Show at Maggiano's Little Italy right across from the Waverly Hotel-Cobb Galleria.

Last year we had about 115 members in attendance had a great meal and a great time. We conduct a little business, introduce our annual cancer research benefit knife, and conduct a mini-knife show. (full size knives, but only 7 of them ;) :D) This year we will also name our 3 winners of the CKCA-Jerry Fisk Cutlery Challenge and present their $15,000 checks.

Each year seven of our member knifemakers create a special knife and offer it to CKCA members via the box draw system. We try to create 7 knives of various types ranging in price from about $400-$6000 in hopes to have something to please all member's taste and price ranges.

It works out well as it gives our member makers a chance show their great talent and meet and get to know collectors who they may not get to meet otherwise. It gives our member collectors a chance to meet and visit with makers and perhaps get a very special knife that they may never get otherwise.

Our seven CKCA member knifemakers for 2012 are:

John Cohea

Steve Culver MS

Stephan Fowler

Jason Knight MS

Tom Overeynder

Lin Rhea MS

Kyle Royer MS

The seven knives created by these makers are being photographed by Buddy Thomason, so I would like to share them with you as they are finished. A BIG THANKS to Buddy for the beautiful images which I will start posting in the near future.

I'm really looking forward to the banquet next month before the Blade show! I am very honored to be a part of this years CKCA mini knife show and I hope those in attendance will enjoy the knives presented there. :)

I have to agree with Kyle. It's is an honor to present a knife before this distinguished group. I hope the attendees will like the knives and enjoy the evening as a whole. I know that a lot of hard work has gone into the knives and preparation for the banquet, which should be a great kick off to a memorable Blade Show. Thank you.

#2 Kyle Royer MS - Bowie

This Fighter has a 9” blade is forged from 1080 and 15N20 in tight W Feather Pattern Damascus. The fittings are of the same damascus as the blade. The handle is made from Sambar Stag that has been lightly polished and darkened. The pommel has been shaped to match the texture of the stag. There are two steel spacers at the front of the handle that have been blued and file-worked in a vine pattern. The damascus spacer at the front of the handle has been inlayed with some 24 K yellow gold in a floral leaf pattern on both sides of the spacer. The blade features a small sharks fin where the clip meats the spine. The guard on this knife is also a little different from the way I normally make them, the top and bottom of the quillons are kind of flat or square instead of rounded and I did this just to give a little different look in the guard. This knife is made in a take-down fashion so if the knife ever needs to be cleaned up or given maintenance it can be sent to me, taken apart and given due attention.

Well, John Cohea's offering is an event and a memorial to a lost time.

What a show this is going to be.

John

Thanks for posting this Kevin, Looking forward to seeing more!

#4 Lin Rhea MS - Heart A Fire Dagger

Blade: 7 3/4 inch Maiden's Hair
OAL: 12 1/2 inch Fittings: Damascus and 14K Gold
Handle: Pre-ban Elephant Ivory

This is my first use of Pre-ban Elephant Ivory and, I must say, these scales are very nicely matches in color and grain pattern. I really admire the buttery color with the yellow gold accents, which is another "first" for me. This is my second large dagger, the first being my Mastersmith test dagger in 09. This one is stamped MS, of course. I seem to prefer the heart shaped blades for a dagger which means the rest of the knife needs to follow in flowing rectangular or oval cross section, accommodating a lot of variety in material and embellishments. I hope you enjoy seeing it.

Outstanding offerings so far. Tom Overeynder's folder is Super Clean and I am just a sucker for great custom folders. Love it!!!

John Cohea's frontier knives have a draw all thier own. His style is very recognizable. Great use of copper.

Kyle's Damascus is always stunning. What's not to love, great feather pattern with awesome stag.

Lin's Dagger is stunning!! Ivory, Gold and Damascus. Wow! The patern dose look like it's on fire around the edges. I can't wait to see it up close. I am loving frame handles of late.

Great knives so far! Can't wait to see the rest of them.

Chris
