Charlie & Harry Mathews:
Well, if nobody else is going to go first, we will. This folding hunter is the same design as our most popular fixed blade knife, the Model 1B. It is the first folder we have made in this pattern and carries serial number 1 on the inner side of the spacer as well as the model number. The knife is a liner lock with titanium liners and handles. It has a 3.5 inch blade made of CPM S30V heat treated in our shop to a Rockwell hardness of 59 on the C scale. The process included a cryogenic treatment in liquid nitrogen. Overall length while open is just under 8 inches. The Titanium scales started out over 1/4 inches thick and were sculpted to match the contours of our Model 1B fixed blade knife. This gives the knife handle a very comfortable feel in the hand with no corners or sharp edges. The knife was engraved and gold inlaid using 24K gold wire by Jim Small. The engraving is deep relief. We told Jim that we wanted engraving you could enjoy in the dark. The photograph was taken by Jim Cooper.

John White:
"The Gambler's Friend" is a 6 1/4 ", 4-bar damascus "hide-out Bowie", Turkish twist over Firecracker, made from 1084 & 15n20.

The frame handle is Bark Mammoth Ivory, the guard, butt-cap, and frame straps are 416 S/S, and the screw-on Finial is "W" pattern damascus.

The knife is a full take-down, and the Paul Long sheath with Alligator insert has a leather "Papoose" to hold the "W" patterned damascus headed take-down tool.

The knife is also designed as a canvas for engraving. It may be enjoyed as is, but has purposely been set up to take down fully, guard, straps, and butt-cap, so the collector may at any time have it engraved.

Russ Andrews will have a very nice carbon steel bowie, with stainless fittings and walrus handle.
I'm told it's a little different style for him.
We should see his piece on Monday.

Waiting on Burt Foster's piece. Should see it soon. That will be the last of them.

We will draw for purchaser on Thursday night after the CKCA banquet dinner.

We tried to get a good variation of knives and I believe we accomplished that.

Details on the Hunter:

Blade: 1084 and 15n20. Pattern: Some sort of unidentifiable mosaic pattern. This is my first true mosaic damascus blade, and though I normally don't like the controlled, repeated patterns of mosaic damascus, at least on my knives, I like how this came out because as you can see, I have no control.

Fittings: satin stainless.

Handle: Stabilized spalted maple burl. The wood came from an old, dead, hard-maple tree that was in front of the first Roman Catholic church built in Bristol, Va in 1865. The tree was probably at least that old. When the tree was cut down, I cut off some large burled areas, dried them over the last three years, and finally had several pieces stabilized.

Sheath: What I call my semi-pouch. I made this style of sheath almost exclusively for hunting type knives for many years, until I moved to a standard pouch. i've recently begun making this style again, partly because I just like the way it looks. Sheath is right handed, slight forward cant, for a 1.5" belt.

Blade length: 4.25"
Overall: 8.9"
