Just finished up this Kephart pattern earlier this week and thought you folks might like a look at it.

Here are the specs:

Overall 7-1/4 inches
3-1/4 inch blade/cutting edge
3/32 O1
Full flat grind/secondary bevel
Scotchbrite finish(my personal favourite for O1)
Lager Ale G-10 scales 1/4 inch thick 320 grit finish so it is smooth yet grippy.
SS tube pins(wanted the first two to be pins but could not find the 5 feet of pin stock I had...found it after the epoxy had set:rolleyes:)
Kydex belt/neck sheath.

I made this one out of 3/32 so it is a real slicer, but to keep the strength I differentially heat treated it. Brought the edge right up to the scales as I like this on a woods knife.

Let me know what you think. I have a few tweaks to this before I start to make them on a regular basis. I love the Kephart pattern/design...all function with none of the bells and whistles you don't need. I know this one comes up a bit short in the blade for a "true" Kephart but for my intended purpose(hoping to keep this one and be able to show people an actual knife I made and not just pictures) which will be everyday carry and use the shorter blade is ideal.

Two more for you:)

Thanks and your input is most appreciated:thumbup:

That's a really nice Kephart. I think it would look even better with some wood scales. Great Job!

Thanks guys!
Ray I was really leaning towards a nice piece of cocobolo I have but I just got the piece of lager ale G-10 and really wanted to try it out. I am glad now I didn't use the cocobolo as the guard is a bit small(a tweak for the next one) and trying to sand and finish out around it in wood would have been a major PITA.

Very nice. Something about a knife with the words lager and ale in its makeup makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Too bad it's only 10 am here... an ale would be very tasty.

The lager ale has a really nice colouring to it. I will get some better pics up in the daylight tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the comments.

Nice! I like the simplicity of the lines. A lot of designs folks are putting out these days look like they were blueprinted by a kid with ADD and a set of French Curves. :D

Sometimes less is more, and this illustrates that point perfectly. :)

Craig - I like how it is a little smaller than most Kepharts - I think it looks nice - although I am not sure I like the hollow pins - but the blade looks GREAT.

Drop me a line when you get to making them full time.

By the way - what in gods name did you do to your thumb nail? ;)

TF...I have been waiting a few years for someone to finally ask me about my wonky thumb nails:)

It is called Habit Tick Disorder or something like that. At first I was told the chemotherapy I had may have done it(both thumbs and the one pictured is the good one) but more research and a chance finding in a medical book says it is from picking the skin around my thumb cuticle...gross I know, but I work in a hydraulic machine shop(Machinist by trade) and the oil and varsol we use just dries my hands out like crazy so I take the dead skin off and there you have it. It damages the nail bed and that is what you thumb nail looks like. It is quite weird looking so the moral of the story is don't pick your fingers or you will have crazy assed finger nails.

I am also not a huge fan of the hollow pins, the last one yes as a lanyard tube but not the other ones....solid would look much better.

I'm not the hugest fan of Keppies- which is why I'm still sitting there looking at my pile of keppie supplies.

I think you did a fantastic job getting a very usable blade there, not too fancy, very workable. I think the guard is just right - and why use cocobolo on a Kephart :D

I like tubing pins. I don't do them on all knives but I do them often enough that it's a bit of a "thing". A lot of the serious choppers- especially in contests and sword fighting- use forward mounted lanyard holes, and I think it's a great option to have and certainly doesn't hurt anything.

Granted, it's a bit like putting shoes on a snake for a knife under 6 inches :)

I like it, clean simple lines. Neat coloring on the G10

as for tubing pins, i like them, BUT only if: the internal edges are smoothed so paracord does'nt fray on the edges, or best of all, like the BUSSEs.......
