CKF Daboia *Too* Strong of Detent?

I just got a Daboia and love it but the detent on this thing is ridiculous! It seems that with bearings this smooth they over did it more than a little bit. Has anyone else had this experience?

When I open the blade using the flipper, the detent is pretty good.
But if I like to open it via the thumb stud, then the detent is almost too strong.

In the end it is a flipper, so I don't see a problem.

I think mine just may be on the higher end of the spectrum because even trying with two hands to put forward pressure on the thumb stud I can't open it that way. When using the flipper it still is an overly strong detent.

I guess it is hard to give an accurate anecdotal assessment. If I try to quantify it by comparison I would say a ZT0560 has about the perfect detent and an Inron MY803 has too strong a detent but is still weaker than this. It is by far the strongest detent I have experienced on a flipper or any folding knife. I was just curious if anyone else has had this experience.

I have the opposite problem. My detent is too weak, it doesn't flip well. I would change the pressure but I haven't decided if I'm going to keep it or not, so I just flipped it a couple of times and put it back in the box. My definition of flipping well is a little skewed because of some of my other knives though.

Anyone with a daboia needs to be very mindful of the lockbar. Normally these knives have very snappy detents. Even a light touch on the lockbar can make it impossible to fire. And due to the way you need to grip the knife the thimbstuds are not useful as you are doing to have your fingers on the lockbar.

Fingers off the lockbar, forget about the "thumbstuds". They aren't thumbstuds, at all.

Lightswitch works better, as well.

I wonder if there are issues of varying detent in that case...

As far as the "thumbstuds" go I definitely know that they aren't intended as thumbstuds and don't try to deploy the knife this way, I just mentioned it to give a feel for the strength of the detent in response to feuerizer's comment.

I don't have a problem deploying the knife either, the "light-switch" method does indeed work much better. I wanted to see if there was any prevalence of this issue (if you want to even call it that) and what others have experienced.

I've had two of them and both felt exactly the same, both were strong but not excessively so and both fired like a rocket. Everyone's definition of detent is different, that's why some say a Hinderer is perfect where most will say they are far too weak.

Both of my Daboias were nearly the same as my ZTs (all of which have very strong detents) but more consistent and smoother feeling on release thanks to the ceramic detent ball.

Also regarding having fingers on the lockbar this definitely has merit, however I own a lot of frame-lock flippers so I can easily rule this out as the sole cause here. This is the only knife I have with such a strong detent.

Ironically I have a second one that should be arriving in a few days (both finishes!) :)

So I can see how that is for me and report back. I just wanted to first put out a feeler to see what other people have experienced.

That is why I posted that my definition of weak is based off of some extremely strong detents and flippers.

The Daboia I got did not have a strong detent compared to any of my ZTs or Reates, it definitely does not fire as fast as them. It's detent is very soft similar to a boker kwaiken. It could just be mine. I've flipped other CKF knives such as the decepticon and they were good flippers with strong detent.

I prefer a strong detent, my RJ Martin Q36, Frank Fischer Battle, Enrique Pena have really strong detents and are among the fastest flippers but still silky smooth.

Alright, update time!

So I got the second one in and it is much softer, my first one really does have a SUPER strong detent. The second one I would say is just about perfect (IMO) because it isn't very strong but never fails to deploy the knife. This one is slightly weaker than a ZT but not by a large margin. The first one got a little better after I disassembled and reassembled the knife because I think the pivot was really torqued down from the factory and I didn't tighten it up quite as much, but it still has a very strong detent and fires hard.

So I guess in a lot of members' opinions I got a desirable one the first time since people seem to prefer strong detents, but honestly the second one is the ideal for me. I just thought I'd share the update so people realized there is a variance with these.

I carry a Pohan Leu. Not sure what "too strong detent" means. :D
