Hey Christof,

I always attributed the term scandi-vex arising from you back in the days when scandi was the big in thing and like usual you were sort of bucking the trend. Anyhow, there is an interesting post over in the Outdoors Gear section where folks are trying to figure out this term:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/861237-Scandi-scandivex-on-choppers

Maybe you can shed some light on the term scandivex both here and in the other thread. Since you made up the term in the first place, maybe you could provide the right definition for it!

I'm pretty sure someone on WSS was the first to hang the name on my grinds. I'm NOT sure it was the first use. off to research

Okay, I was doing the grind that's called a scandivex back into 2007. I wasn't differentiating at the time, but all the way back into the first dozen knives it's in there. (in fact, my first sale was a bird and trout to Mountainfolk Mike with that grind)

About.... 20-24 months ago I revised it, flattening grind significantly to up the "scandi" part.

It looks like the first use of the term on bladeforums was by Dan Koster in february 2008.

Thanks Christof! Hope you are enjoying the 4th! Next week I'm off to Apalachicola Nat'l Forest in Florida and will be taking that leukochete along for the ride. Hopefully I will get some shots of it in use. Take care.

Ken

I think it's a good description for a grind that has been around forever- I've got Scandinavian handmade scandi ground knives that are convex- and obviously the idea can't be owned. I do it a lot because I find it to perform very well and maintain easily. I guess there could be an argument at some point about owning the name, but if that happens I'll call them "Nordic convex" :D :D :D

SO, everyone use it. get it into wikipedia

I'm currently working on a Flatollowvexscandisaberian grind. Expect awesomeness if I achieve my goal. As for now, I need to get back to finishing my time machine to take care of a couple screw-ups .... If I'm successful the Nazi's will have lost the war and Thursday will come AFTER Wednesday.

Thanks Rick...I now have coffee all over the place...:D:D

Funny thing is, I have a maker friend offline who has started doing convexed hollow grinds.....

Seems to me they would end up cancelling eachother out and become a flat grind.... lol... like 2 identicle but opposite sine waves.

Do you mean hollow primary with a convex secondary grind?
