I am wondering what others are using to hold scales, bolsters, etc. while sanding on the disc or belt sander. I am especially interested in finding some kind of clamp to hold bone scales while truing them on the disc sander.

some scotch tape works good. you take a length of it and fold in in half then stick the ends to the handle. its hard to explane. but seams to work good.

If you heat a glue stick (for a glue gun) you can stick it to whatever you want to sand.

Similar to that, is what they call "dop wax". It's used in gem-cutting to fix a stone to the end of a stick. Heat it up and stick it to what you want to sand. Then simply pop it in the freezer to remove.

Check lapidary supply places. The green stuff is what you want.

Yes. Shellac will work, too. But the glue sticks just peel off.

Try a Flat piece of wood with a piece of Double Sided Carpet tape.
Lowes has the good stuff it is white and sticks like crazy.
Use acetone to remove any residue

The resin/wax/glue/pitch approach works well. Just remember if you get your piece hot working it you'll unset your bond.

You might want to try something like these jeweler's clamps. You could probably fabricate something like them. Or, they can usually be purchased for under $10. They're also good for holding stuff you want to work with needle files and or rotary bits.

There's good advice here but me being cheap and lazy, I just use masking tape the way JT does. Works fine, even dunking in water. And it's quick and I have a boatload of masking tape...
